This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Ariel ran a singular hand through his white hair, a sigh escaped his lips . He had screwed up big time, this might have been worse than when he turned down going to college. His own arrogance had cost him everything that he held dear to him, his Pokemon. Why did he think that he could take on those things? Now his Pokemon were part of that disgusting hoard. He was going to make it right, no no, he had to make it right for their sake as well as his - he was going to find his Pokemon and cure them, that was his goal.-
He clenched his letter tightly in his left hand, he felt the same nervousness as he did when he was ten and received his first Pokemon. He would almost call it a nice experience if it wasn't for the dark and sad overtones tor the reason that he was there. Perhaps he could actually bound with his new starter, like he had his old one.
He went through the door, his had raised high. "Hello? I`m Ariel Collins, Eos employed me as a researcher."
after a day of rambunctious eos trainers, the sight of a fellow researcher is a welcome change for cypress. not that he didn't enjoy seeing the sorts of trainers that are helping to hold back the scourge threat. not at all, but he does feel a sort of kinship towards those who are inclined towards data and graphs.
that only alleviates his nervousness a little, however.
"c-collins, yes. it's good to see you. please make yourself at home while i fetch - ah, thank you mr. krauss" the alakazam levitates the suitcase over to cypress' side. "you're here for a pokemon, i presume? are you sure that you wouldn't mind working in a facility?" the professor laughs nervously as he unlatches the suitcase. "all of the pokemon are vaccinated, of course, so feel free to pick any of them" he sets the case on the table that remains at the front since trainers first started arriving at his door.
"Ah, it's a pleasure to meet you Professor, I've heard a lot about you." Ariel smiled. "I promise, they're all good things." In truth, before Ariels' parents had planned for him to become a researcher, though the young boy had some sort of midlife crisis in his early teens and became a professional surfer. He'd give the world for a chance to go back to his old life, but no amount of wishing could bring it back. He had to accept that his life has been forever changed by a terrible event.
"I wish, that would probably be a lot more safer. My calling lies out in the field, I'm rather intent retrieving a set of things that happen to be rather dear to me. Plus, I think I'd go mad staring at tissue samples all day long." He laughed, though it was forced and unnatural. He found himself feeling rather awkward around the Professor, perhaps if he had met him under different circumstances it'd be different and the pair would be more relaxed.
"Thank you, Professor. This means a lot." He eyed each pokeball carefully, this Pokemon would be his partner - one safe from becoming part of the hoard. He decided on the Electrike, he picked up the Pokeball with his right hand. He could feel the butterflies in the pit of his stomach. This was meant to be, he could feel it. "I'd like this one Professor."
"h-have you?" cypress blushes slightly. no matter how many times the scientific community praised him for his role in the development of the vaccine, he can never quite get used to it. really, though, the scientists at pax institute were no less brilliant than he, even if their experiments ended in tragedy. sometimes, he lies awake at night and wonders whether he would have been one of the researchers who supported the project, had he stayed in kohaku.
"that is quite admirable of you", and he exaggerates nothing. truly, he wishes that he could be a bigger help after the introduction of the vaccine, but the thought of having to brave the wilderness is unthinkable to him. in the lab, he is free to be himself, free to be as efficient as the eos need him to be. cypress doubts that he would be much more than scourge fodder, should he journey beyond the borders of this town. "it's not so bad, working here" he smiles a bit, but he does not attempt to push the matter further.
"the pleasure is all mine," and he means it. if everyone continues to play their part, then maybe there will still be hope for the region. even if it means seeing dozens of trainers and researchers a day "i hope that you will take good care of that pokemon"

FOR ARIEL
(level 10, all eligible level-up moves and Egg Move of ice fang)
"Of course." In all honesty, Ariel didn't think anyone could even dream to mumble a bad word about the Cypress. He was the salvation, the hope to the problem Kohaku happened to be facing. He didn't know anyone who knew the Professor closely enough to bad mouth him anyway.
"My calling is more selfish than anything else." He spoke bluntly, it wasn't like Ariel to put himself down, but he hadn't seemed to recover from the funk that he was in about losing his Pokemon. He should, in truth, be in a lab studying tissue samples - working on a cure, he had the brainpower for it but he needed to find his old team. Perhaps by the time that he did, someone would find a cure or perhaps his own field notes would aid in it.
His hand shook with nervousness, soon he'd head out on his much more life threatening journey. It'd be unlike anything Ariel had put his mind to before. "No, the pleasure is truly mine, and don't worry it'll be just fine. Maybe a bit spoiled actually."
With that he waved and started out. He hoped the pair could meet again, and discuss some sort of cure after Ariel had collected research, he just hoped he wouldn't become food for the Scourge.
