This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

the forest is bright; she hears the sound of bird pokemon twittering away in the trees amidst the rustle of leaves in the gentle wind. delilah finds the tranquility of the forest soothing -- unlike bacchus, which has been overrun by scourge; or the messy nerio; or even the clean-yet-busy proserpina, ceres offers her a peace of heart and mind.
the woman walks slowly through the forest, smiling at the two pokemon running ahead of her. sitri and andras were rolling around on the path, giggling and generally just having a fantastic time. (delilah hopes the two pokemon have forgotten about their less-than-cordial first encounter; but seeing as the budew hasn't yet burst into tears, she guesses it's a safe assumption.)
delilah laughs as the both of them topple over and roll around on their little rotund bodies, flailing and giggling. at least her pokemon have fun together.
The torchic heard the sound of pokemon playing. The happiness was a sore sound to its ears, but any sound of life at all was considered a good sign.
Stumbling slowly, dragging around a broken wing and a battered body, it ungraciously fell out of a tree's branches and onto its roots, bouncing painfully to tumble at the playing pokemon's feet.
both pokemon stop rolling around when an orange, feathery blur tumbled down in front of them. andras stumbled backward, rolling onto his rear end, and sitri squeaked in surprise. the woman rushed forward on the path, her eyebrows furrowed -- what was going on?
the woman's eyes widened at the sight of the beaten, battered torchic, and she began to fish around in her bag. she was sure she had a potion in there somewhere. as delilah rummaged around in her travel pack, her budew shyly reached out a stumpy arm to pet the wild pokemon in the hopes of comforting it.
delilah knelt down as sitri continued to attempt to make the small fire-type feel better, holding out the potion and spraying it onto the injured torchic. "here you go."
The potion bathed it in its curative properties. The bruises and cuts healed, the body looked more durable. Miraculously, its broken wing also healed from the simply potion.
<Torch!>, it said.
Suckers!
It did a quick feather dance, followed by a spewing of embers.
From behind the trainer and her pokemon, a glameow pounced out of the underbrush that had hidden it. With quick paws, it leapt in with a fake out and snatched Delilah's bag.
Both pokemon immediately turned to flee the scene.
the feathers burst into the air, quickly catching fire from the embers -- delilah unceremoniously swatted her pokemon away, shielding herself with her other arm. unfortunately, by then, her bag had been snatched away by the mischievous pokemon. she can't help but laugh. those two were clever.
of course, that didn't mean she was going to let them get away with it.
"sitri, spikes!" recovering from the earlier shock, the budew tossed the pointy, painful objects in front of them, indignant. "deew!" she cried, pouting. how could they take her trainer's things! (how mean!)
as the grass pokemon littered the ground with the hazard, she addressed the spheal. "defense curl, then powder snow." pulling himself into a tight ball, the blue pokemon summoned a flurry of the frigid snow to send at their opponents.
it should at least be enough to stop those two thieves, if only momentarily.
The glameow tripped on the spikes, tumbling to the ground and dropping the bag, whereas the the torchic sped along, nimbly dodging the spikes--and picking up the bag while it was at it. The torchic shrugged off the brunt powdered snow, most of it melting into nonexistence before it even touched the fire pokemon, but the glameow was shivering.
But there was honor among thieves, and instead of abandoning its friend, the torchic turned. It spewed another ember at both the budew and the spheal.
The glameow stumbled back to its feet. Yowling, it pounced forward with a scratch the budew. Then, it dropped a hypnosis at both the pokemon. It leapt back, making some distance, but still standing protectively in front of the torchic.
hypnosis - under 60 is a hit
torchic: dodged spikes, hit by powdered snow. used ember. glameow: hit by spikes, hit by powdered snow. used hypnosis and scratch.
rolling, andras took most of the flames -- unlike his plant-like counterpart, he could handle most of the attack. the spheal still winced, however, and sprayed water in the direction of the torchic. those flames were going to get more and more painful!
despite having been protected from the embers, however, sitri cried out as the glameow's claws raked through her delicate skin. "absorb, sitri!" delilah called. "then stun spore!"
on the verge of tears, the budew opened up the bud on the top of her head and focused a small beam of light on the glameow in an attempt to regain some of the vitality she had just lost. then, from the same bud, yellow numbing powder exploded into the air.
spheal used water gun on torchic. budew used absorb on glameow, then stun spore on both.
stun spore (hits under 75)
(ok i dont know what the fuck is going on w/ this roll)
<Glammrrrow--glam,> the glameow hissed. Take the bag, go!
The torchic, unfortunately, was not going anywhere. Where the glameow neatly slid through high grass to avoid the stun spore, the torchic hadn't moved out of the way in time.
Paralyzed, it held the bag, and it held very, very still. Miserably, it was doused in a water gun. Coughing and wheezing, and trembling from the effect of the water gun, it tried another ember leveled at the budew.
Not inclined to grab the bag for herself and leave, the glameow spat onto the ground (for good luck?) and turned for another attempt at hypnosis.
Like it had any choice anyway, the torchic declared, <Torchic torch tor.>Not leavin' you.
hypnosis - under 60 is a hit
torchic: hit by stun spore, hit by water gun. on verge of collapse. glameow: dodged stun spore, hit by absorb. used hypnosis. beat up, but alright.
with a pained cry, the budew felt the scorching hot flames lick at her body. she stumbled to the ground, garnering a concerned glance from her partner. "get up, sitri!" delilah called. "water sport -- then absorb!" it was obvious the budew was on her last legs, but she struggled to her feet and spewed a light rain of water over the area. then again came the beam of light, focused on the glameow.
andras, on the other hand, once he saw the budew up and (somewhat?) kicking, released another flurry of powder snow at his two opponents before yawning widely at the glameow.
budew used water sport, then absorb on glameow. (hit by ember) spheal used powder snow on both, then yawn on glameow.
The torchic weathered the powdered snow a second time without much disstress (not beyond already being in a world of pain), but the glameow seized in an attack of the shivers. The absorb caused it to give another shudder, and it curled into a fetal position.
The glameow stopped moving.
Enraged, the torchic, moving clumsily as it struggled against its paralysis, aimed a scratch at the spheal.
torchic: hit by powder snow (it wasn't very effective...), used scratch. glameow: is down.
it was great that the glameow was knocked out, but that torchic was still going. the spheal attempted to roll back to avoid the razor-sharp claws, but they still razed his side. andras retaliated with a weakened spray of water, panting. delilah's mouth turned down into a frown as her spheal began to succumb to his injuries; his movements were sluggish, and it was obvious neither of her pokemon were going to last much longer.
"sitri, try to absorb," she commands quietly. the budew was revitalized -- if only slightly -- and opened her bud to leech any vestiges of vitality from the torchic.
budew used absorb on glameow. spheal used water gun. (hit by scratch)
Facing down the water gun was the torchic's last stand. A wiser torchic might've tried running--not that it was option, paralyzed as it was--but this torchic wasn't about to abandon a fallen comrade.
Instead it made two for the fallen.
Wobbling on its feet, it finally collapsed, falling face-first, still clinging to Delilah's bag.
delilah promptly returned both of her pokemon to their pokeballs, kneeling down to gently pry the torchic off of her bag. the both of them had put up a good fight.
with a small smile, she pulled two pokeballs from her bag and tossed one each at the unconscious pokemon.
