This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Icarus swam alone in the center of a watery arena. He was not alone though. With the stadium now silent as Icarus had stopped dreaming up adoring fans, Neo had brought out the entire cavalry to cheer for him.
<Solosis!> cried Phoebe. Behind her, the scraggy, the blitzle, the mawile, and even young Leto were cheering energetically. None of them had particularly liked Icarus, but... at some point, they couldn't help but pity the magikarp.
"You can do it!" Neo called.
( lv8+ challengers highly preferred, else i only get half exp )
What looked like a small blue tent was paddling her way through the water. Another trainer, his eyes hidden behind a mop of messy red hair, stood at the other end of the arena. Aksel didn't even own a water type. What was he doing here? The young Snorunt was squirming closer and closer to the Magikarp. Aksel couldn't believe this was his opponent. He didn't need a water type to beat this. He just needed his darling Peach to stay afloat.
"Heeey... how's about I give you first hit, huh?" Aksel offered, holding back a laugh and instead casting his opponents a smile. He had this in the bag. You don't bring a Magikarp to a Pokemon battle. First hit was the least he could offer to someone who was about to get their ass handed to them.
Neo wasn't entirely sure why she kept sending Icarus out onto the field. She knew the inevitable result: defeat--humiliating defeat.
"At least you're in your element, Icarus," Neo said. Was that meant to be encouragement? She wasn't sure. It was, at least, the absolute truth. With no other attack options at hand, she commanded, "Splash."
Icarus, for his part, committed the snorunt to memory. Skarmory. Eevee. Snubbull. Elekid. One day each of them would fall.
But for now, he unleashed a mighty splash, which sent a few ripples across the water--if even that.
She felt like she should speak some more words of encouragement. "Good job, Icarus," Neo deadpanned.
Peach was already struggling enough to swim toward the fish. Those little waves he was causing pushed her back just enough to really irk her. You could see it in her eyes that this was annoying her. With Leer, her eyes shone bright red in a glare, paddling faster than she ever had before, bee-lining straight toward her enemy. How dare he splash at her.
But she didn't need to reach him. "Peach, Powder Snow!" And she obeyed. From a distance, she was able to blow an icy, cold stream of snow toward the fish. The Snorunt was ready to have herself a nice fishcicle.
The leer gave Icarus a moment's pause--but only a moment! He was a magikarp, he told himself. He was sublime--magnificent! The true face of glory! The magikarp slithered in place and then lowered its head for a charge--
"Back up, Icarus. It can barely swim, and you are a fish. A fish that can swim! Just swim away," Neo said in clipped tones, an uncharacteristic urgency in her voice. She didn't know of any pokemon shrinks. She wasn't sure she could afford a pokemon shrink.
Icarus was locked in indecision, until finally, with a note of shame, the magikarp dodged the powdered snow.
No way. Aksel didn't know Magikarp could swim. He thought they just sort of, well, floated. This must have been pure luck. Maybe a tactically timed use of Splash. They needed a new plan, and Aksel already had one. "Just go in for a quick Bite!"
The wide set of teeth on the Snorunt had bared and opened as she tried to get a well enough hold on the Magikarp to attempt to bite down into his fishy scales. But when the fish was so wiggly and squirmy, it was hard to get her little hands on him. What a slippery creature. Who made the rumor that Magikarp were pathetic? Some say they could splash over mountains. Peach wasn't sure if she was ready for this intense of a battle.
Unfortunately for better tactical considerations, Icarus was done with running. With an open-mouthed, gaping glub glub, it faced the snorunt's attack like a man.
Icarus' glub glub turned into a reedy croak as teeth sank into its (decidedly unappetizing) flesh. Valiantly, it splashed, its master attack, which caused it to waggle like a broken doll in the snorunt's mouth. The magikarp was mortified. Disgraced! First to flee like a coward, and now to be chewed on like algae!
Neo's pokemon party of cheerleaders were a little short on things to say. The likes go go get 'em seemed to be a bit... well, overly hopeful. "Maybe next time," Neo said, without much conviction.
"Ready to call it quits?" There was a faint snicker from Aksel as he brought a hand over his mouth to silence himself. It was mean, he knew. But why had she sent out a Magikarp? Why was the fish even trying? The Splashing surely only made the pain of the teeth all the more worse.
Peach had tossed her opponent to the side, paddling backward with her little feet. She'd cast Icarus a Leer with her narrowed eyes, threatening to do some serious damage if he made one more move in her direction. She'd bite those fins until he never splashed again. Despite her timid exterior, Peach was stubborn and couldn't bear to lose a fight. This Magikarp would be tuna if he didn't back down now.
Neo was absolutely certain that leer as an attack did absolutely no damage. All the same, she was also pretty certain it was the leer that knocked Icarus unconscious.
She didn't know what to do with this hopeless pokemon.
"What doesn't kill you will only make you stronger," Neo recited with an effected confidence. So she wasn't Icarus' biggest fan (or, as it happened, she was, but that said more about the state of Icarus' fans than it did herself), but he was still her pokemon. "I believe we'll call it quits when Icarus is stronger. We can have a rematch then, maybe."
Peach had won. And what a nice confidence boost that was. She was well aware that Leer was meant to scare her opponent into lowering their defense. Apparently, Icarus wasn't man enough to handle her glare. She was too intimidating for him.
The little tent squirmed through the water back to her trainer, a sudden shyness as she approached and hid her face. She was just so proud of herself. And she hoped her man was too.
Aksel wore a dopey grin, his arm bolting into the air to wave at Neo. "I'll be waiting!" And he would be. Who could turn down the chance to acquire free wins against a useless Pokemon like this one? But it was too easy. Aksel and his Snorunt backed out from the arena, content with their win of the day.
