She returned home three years later, however, because her mother had fallen ill and soon after she died. Emily then took care of her three younger brothers when their father ran out on them. At the age of seventeen she was contacted by her grandmother who lived in Castelia City. After speaking for a while, it was decided that Emily could return to her dream journey after she delivered her siblings to their grandmother. After dropping off her brothers and sisters, Emily became aware of the Kohaku Region and the Scourge.
