This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

The dream arena was empty. There were no adoring fans, imagined or otherwise. On the upside, that meant there were no strange anthropomorphic magikarp cheerleader girls. On the downside, this was a pretty depressing contrast to the screaming adulation that Icarus had dreams up for himself the first time he'd fought in the arena.
'Fought' in the arena, anyway. Like splashing counted for anything.
"You could retire," Neo offered. "I could put you in the box."
Icarus refused, flopping about in indignation. It would not give up. It would not surrender. It would go down fighting, like a true magikarp.
This arena was pretty creepy. Thalia stared at the pokeball in her hands. She still wasn't really sure what to do with this abra, but it was kinda sorta just a dream, right? She released him into the battlefield with no fanfare.
The pokemon snoozed an inch above the water, snoring lightly with his head on his chest. Well, damn. admin
Alright. How to minimize psychological damage to the already very damaged magikarp? "Splash," Neo commanded, because it wasn't like there were any alternative choices.
Icarus splashed, sending small ripples across the water's surface.
"Well done!" Neo said, because she read in a book that positive enforcement was tantamount to healthy pokemon training, but she was pretty sure she had sounded on the wrong side of sarcastic.
The internal clockwork of Neo's brain started churning away. "Swim up to it, Icarus, and then leap into its lap."
The magikarp did as it was told, a remarkable turn of events, and swam up to the edge of the water where the abra sat. It leaped out of the water in a sparkling display of fishy acrobatics and landed neatly into the abra's lap.
With renewed vigor and a great sense of determination, the magikarp fiercely splashed. It could do this! It could win! Its almighty splash attack was having a real effect.
It felt like a god.
This was what it meant to be a magikarp!
"Wouldn't both such careers require a great deal of training?" Neo inquired.
The water lapping at his neck, the abra finally began to stumble out of his stupor, but it was true late. As he slipped completely underwater under the barrage of the ferocious splash attack, he retreated to his pokeball. Defeated.
"I'm relatively young," Thalia said. "I could make it. Anything but this."admin
Neo was about to suggest Thalia recall her pokemon before it also suffocated. Like her snover. Irresponsible pokemon training at its finest, Neo thought.
She recalled her magikarp.
"I wasn't saying that it was too late for you," Neo replied.
