This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

The battle arena was grassy, with a circle of trees closing them in. The branches swooped above the small meadow and the sun shone barely through the leaves.
Aksel was rocking to and fro on the heels of his sneakers, both arms crossed over his chest as he patiently waited for his opponent beneath the shade of one of the trees. His Pokemon who had the intention of battling was already in the arena. The small elephant, Cecil, was stomping through the grass, tearing flowers out by the roots with his trunk as he shouted triumphantly, "Phan phan phanpy."
The Pokemon continued his little chant, growing impatient and taking it out on the field itself. Cecil was ready to rumble.
Battling wasn’t off-limits for a caretaker’s spirit. His consciousness floated, quite jaded, before feeling that craving. With the speed and form of an apparition, he appeared inside an arena with cheering fans. Not for long. Opening a dreamy door, Micah found himself in a cozy woodland niche. Across the field was his opponent.
The dreamworld moved as fast as the internet. Sometimes the similarity was so clear. How he could challenge a person perhaps halfway across the globe was bizarre. As far as this challenge went, willpower was key. This was all in his head after all, right?
“Ello!” Micah said, stumbling out of some portal. At once, he felt the grasses below on his sandaled feet. He quickly noted the contender’s pokémon. It was gosh-darn cuteness, dude. “Phanphy, eh? It seems happy; you must treat it well!” The boy then figured the opposition didn’t really care for compliments. They were there for one thing only. Okay. Micah pulled a deactivated pokeball from his jacket pocket. Push button, energy hits ground, introducing: Derrick the Scraggy!
The pants-lizard grunted. “You were here first; you get first move.” Micah said with a smile. His shedding pokémon moved forth into the battle zone and eyed the elephant like a predator would.
Chatty, wasn't he? Aksel had no complaints. He didn't want to confess though that he'd only recently received the Phanpy. It was a new Pokemon for him and this was their first battle together. But in the day they'd spent together, they'd become a tight duo. Just as he expected this Micah character to be with this Scraggy he'd shown.
A dark and fighting Pokemon. At least they weren't at a type disadvantage. Though, if Aksel knew what was good for him, he'd have to refrain from using Phanpy's rock type rollout against this one.
"It would be my pleasure!" Aksel grinned, bracing himself with both legs apart. He swung his arm out and pointed to his opponent, calling out to his Pokemon. "Get ready, Phanpy! Let's start it with Growl!"
The elephant stomped his feet, all four planting firmly into the ground as he opened his mouth and let out a piercing cry at the Scraggy- the Phanpy meant business now.
"Then Heavy Slam!"
Then he charged, his head bowed low as he put his weight into his run as he turned his body with hopes of plowing the Scraggy right into the ground. The Phanpy was almost three times the Scraggy's weight, despite being a couple inches smaller. Against a lighter opponent, the slam would be dealing serious damage.
Micah, too, was unused to his battling cohort. The scraggy donated to his farm by an EOS colleague. Hopefully, their fresh relationship could be a good thing. For one, they had little to no baggage to hamper their actions. The boy wanted to win, though. A victory would be a great first impression.
The view of his foe shouting commands was exhilarating. Battling wasn’t an everyday thing for the breeder, but he could understand its hype. Micah focused at the elephant’s actions and how it affected his partner. A once confident Derrick lost his cool once hearing that unnerving growl. Micah did too actually. Such sounds weren’t supposed to come from tiny bodies. The actual attack caught them both off-guard as well. Neither the scraggy nor its trainer figured the phanpy could move so quickly. It was ironic too, considering the name of the attack used. Derrick fell to ground, seething from the slam’s full-force.
“C’mon, pal.” Micah’s eyes showed no worry. The donation came with assurance that the lizard was a seasoned fighter. Whether or not that was true was to be discovered. The scraggy did rise to its feet eventually. It showed a bit of struggle but nothing alarming.
“Alright, now. Leer like a creep!” The scraggy almost mimicked the elephant in how he descended into a stalk. From Micah’s perspective, the lizard looked as if he was prepping to sprint 100m. “Now, low kick!” Derrick rushed forth in a dash before sliding with one sharp leg outstretched. Maybe both sides were even-matched. Time will tell.
Leer like a creep? This boy was adorable. Aksel was snickering with amusement as he knelt down on the grass, just on one knee, as his arms rested over top of his other. The Pokemon were so small, he felt as though he were towering over them while standing. He felt he had a better view when he was closer to their level.
Cecil was slightly intimidated by that glare that his opposing Scraggy was giving. It caused him to stumble back a little in worry, his defense dropping long enough that the kick went right to his legs and knocked his feet out from under him. The Phanpy found his face coming in contact with the ground. "Pha... phan!"
"Come on, Cec, you know what you're doing. Up again! Show him what you're made of."
And the Phanpy did just that. He let the Scraggy see right up close what he was made of as he tried to stumble toward the opponent with a Take Down. Whether the attack would succeed or not- whether he hit the Scraggy with the front of his head or ran right past it if it were to dodge- the attack was followed up by a Defense Curl, the elephant curling itself and it's trunk into a tight defensive ball, ready to take another kick or two.
Micah flinched then began clapping. Hey, the breeder was a tourist to this pokémon battling thing. His opponent could probably assess hits and fatigues, while he could only cheer and shout commands. Perhaps his scraggy was accomplished enough for him to just do that. Honestly, a win or a loss, he was giving his new pantslizard a treat for that last combo. On edge, Micah was ready to yell at every solid movement the elephant made. He wasn’t letting his reptile get slammed again. No siree!
“Rick, get outta there!” The lizard managed to throw itself down to the right, avoiding the stampeding elephant. Slithering up to its feet again, the scraggy ran towards the fortified elephant, holding its pants up but slipped and fell on its ass. The fall managed to kick up a stunning amount of sand. Oh, sand-attack. Micah took note. The boy was still learning about his pokémon. Each new quirk was something to be remembered.
Rolled tight into a ball, there was no chance for the Phanpy to dodge the sand. It pelted his tough exterior and he started to roll backward, uncurling himself and quickly shaking his head. He was a little dizzy, but he tried to get his sight straight and fix his eyes on his opponent.
Phanpy was stomping his feet into the ground, letting out another sharp Growl. He heard his trainer's command- "Flail, Cecil, flail!" And then he obeyed. It was an attack that did more damage depending on how close the other Pokemon was to fainting. But Phanpy wanted to show off his moves now. Cecil ran at the Scraggy, his trunk and ears flailing as he stomped toward the other in a rather silly manner, his body shaking around with only the intention of hurting his foe.
Rolling backwards onto his legs, the lithe lizard was not prepped in the slightest for phanpy’s unsettling yelp. Upset, it flashed another leer at the dazed elephant. Micah watched closely, observing the lightheaded phanpy. The breeder blinked at the sound of his opponent’s command. In that time, the elephant was already charging towards his partner. The rambunctious charge was meant to inflict pain and nothing else. Derrick, however, appeared to find no danger in this attack. Its nonchalance made Micah livid.
“What are you doing, D?” The lizard responded by leaping to the left gracefully as the dizzy phanpy went trudging on by. "Oh! Great job, bud!"
[dodged due to sand-attack :0, i just learned how to use the battle system, so i'll be following rules now, sorry about that hahaha. what’s your favorite ice cream?]
Feeling a renewed confidence from Scraggy's inability to attack that turn, Cecil shook his head quickly and spun around on his toes. Phanpy wasn't pleased. He was stomping immaturely and went in again. It seemed that the majority of Cecil's attacks involved charging into his opponent. He went at it again, using the weight of his Heavy Slam.
Aksel was laughing at the side, seeming more amused by this than all else. The elephant was having one of his tantrums again.
(don't you worry about it! i went and brushed up on my buffs and debuffs too, so no need to apologize. you're following rules! ;P)
