This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Neo wandered through the Vulcan Depths loudly, her C-Gear blasting the radio (how did the signal reach so far underground?) at full external volume.
She was trying to pick a fight.
She had six pokemon on her belt, and that was more than she needed, quite frankly. She wasn't sure she was even going to keep any for the long-term. Neo was a researcher, after all, not a trainer. She kept pokemon with her for self defense, research assistance, and sometimes their company. She didn't need company all that often though.
Still, once she stepped out of Di Manes, she'd be a hop, skip, and a jump from Nerio City, which meant she was nearly in scourge territory. She wasn't ready. Her pokemon weren't ready. Her team wasn't ready, not if she wanted to stand and fight this time. They needed to train, and dreaming wasn't going to cut it.
Last time she ran into the scourge, she fled. The time before that, she also fled.
it was almost as if whatever it was, it was marching. off in the distance, echoing through the cavern walls. the ceilings shook, and dust and small stones fell from them. left, right, left-right-left. the something moved rhythmically, and whatever it was, it seemed like it was moving around in numbers.
as suddenly as the sound started, it slowed, stopped, and died down completely. the depths of the cave were suddenly quiet, save the sound of neo's walking.
and then it appeared, an awkward thing oblivious to it being separated from its group.
lv22 oblivious growl, tackle, ember, magnitude, focus energy, flame burst + yawn in the distance.
Someone seemed a little lost from his pack. Well, you know what they say: don't split the party.
She tried to walk silently, but in the end, all she managed was walking somewhat quietly. One of these days--maybe tonight--she'd have to practice walking on stone without her shoes making a sound. It was easier in the soft dirt of a forest; you were alright there as long as you avoided dried leaves and twigs.
When she drew close enough for a good pokeball throw, she hurled Icarus out into the open, the gyrados appearing in a flash of bright red light. Out of reflex and habit, Icarus opened with a splash.
But nothing happened!
"Try a surf," she suggested as kindly as she could in a lukewarm monotone.
the numel turned around, only to see a massive wave of water coming towards it.
rewind to three minutes ago, when it was still daydreaming about and icarus had splashed on the rocky cavern floor out of sheer habit. the gyarados had indeed been a sight, but the camel pokémon didn't notice it. it thought that its party had been rather close by, despite the rather odd-sounding stomping (which in reality, was the sea serpent flopping around).
it yawned lazily as it turned around, before the wave started coming towards it, a gyarados somewhere behind the water. the numel was caught unaware, and the wave sent it hurtling quite a good distance down the passageway.
then it was out of sight, but nonetheless battered. it stomped around anxiously, generating a magnitude of 7!
... did anything happen?
unlikely, but the caverns had shook and shuddered and rocks had started to crumble from the ceiling.
lv22 oblivious growl, tackle, ember, magnitude, focus energy, flame burst + yawn ... still in the distance.
Icarus also yawned widely and promptly fell asleep. Then the cavern started shaking and small fragments of the stalagmites overhead landed on her shoulders.
She tried to shake Icarus awake, but he was fast asleep!
This... wasn't so good.
Hastily, because she resorted to her primal instinct when she was worried, Neo took out her pokedex and took down the numel's data. She didn't want to have to do that while fleeing in an Mightyena Jones-esque action sequence.
With a toss of a pokeball, Neo brought out her gastly. "Can you curse the numel from here?"
the numel glanced around, worried about where its pack had gone off to. where could they possibly be? in an attempt to locate them, it stomped around with magnitude, wanting to use the echoes to find its party, but to no avail.
magnitude struck 8!
the caves shook harder, and the ceiling started to crack. as leto tried to curse the numel, the camel pokémon had moved farther away; as such, the effectiveness of the attack was decreased. it felt intense pain shoot up the back of its neck, and it craned around to see what happened.
The caverns shook around her, and Neo's expression didn't change, but her face paled. She hadn't come this far to die in a cave in. "Wake up!" she said, kicking Icarus, but he was fast asleep.
She had other pokemon, but she wasn't sure she should call out any more into the cave, not if they might have to run for their lives if the cave itself came crashing down.
"Alright, Leto? Go up to that thing--that Numel--and give it a psywave and then a hypnosis."
the gas pokémon floated over to the camel pokémon, and it didn't take long time for the numel to realize where the curse had came from. it was the ghost, there was no two ways about it!
the numel took a step back and inhaled a deep breath of air to ignite the flames within it. the psywave struck it mentally, but nothing stopped it from kicking into full anxiety mode. it released a flame burst from its mouth, streaks of flame heading towards leto.
as quickly as it had kicked itself into aggression, it fell to the power of the hypnosis. at the same time, the curse waged damage on the wild pokémon.
"Come back," Neo hissed quietly at the gastly as the numel finally seemed to realize that it was being attacked, but Leto couldn't hear her from the distance. She tried again, louder. "Come back!"
Leto still didn't hear. He was too interested in approaching even closer for a nightshade, but in the end, she saw the first embers of a gushing flame, and the gastly ran like her life depended on it, which it probably did. Wailing like a terrified banshee, the ghost pokemon dashed back to Neo's side and hid behind his trainer.
"Well done. Now help me wake up old grumpy here." She gave the gyrados a hard shake, insomuch as she could shake a gyrados, but he was fast asleep!
"Thanks," Neo told him. "You were really helpful."
The gastly nodded in agreement.
Icarus looked at the fallen corpse of the enemy Numel, and he nodded his satisfaction. He had exterminated another member of those lesser species. A job well done!
