This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

"Remember." He hissed down to it, the bird giving a slight, nervous twitch of its wings in response. "You're not here to have fun. You're here to win." Whatever protest it can possibly muster up at this point was met with his face, one that creased with a frown and said 'I know we're here to battle, and to battle is to win'. None of that 'never give up' bullshit. He wouldn't stand for it.
Work together. This was what these battles were all about, but he didn't count on anything from that thing to help the mudkip scuffing the dirt idly in the corner. Which was a good thing, he supposed, because there was going to come a day where they would only be left with themselves, and that day might not be too far off. Best to start now.
As Emily entered the arena, she noted her opponent was already waiting for her. She smiled and waved to the male, and her pokemon did the same to their own counterparts. "Hello! I'm Emily! This is Goth and Pinch!"
The Gothita and Trapinch nodded at their opponents, readying themselves for battle. "You were here first so it's your move!"
She smiled at him when she entered, but he didn't return the gesture because it reminded him too much of the time he'd first met her. "Jayden." Instead, he busied himself with introductions, not caring what his pokemon below him did because what they did was their business. The natu's previous owner had called it a name, and he remembered it, but didn't care to introduce it, not to a complete stranger, so he left it at that.
"You sure? Don't end up regretting it later." A corner of his lip curled up, in a slight smirk. "Night Shade, Waterfall." And the only way he differentiated from attacks - other than the obvious, blatant typing towards them - was the kick he gave the natu when he barked out its command, and it was just like it to have a less powerful move than a baby hatchling because that was just the kind of pokemon it was. He narrowed his eyes. This wasn't playtime. They were here to win.
"HEY! YOU STOP THAT!" Emily called out when Jayden kicked the Natu. Seeing a trainer hurt their own pokemon was something Emily would NOT stand for. "You just wait until we're finished and I'll give you A REAL KICKING TO DEAL WITH!"
Goth turned around to comfort her trainer, but was hut by Night Shade. Trapinch, being a baby, didn't know how to dodge the water attack and flailed around in the water, only to be knocked out on the next go.
"You did okay Pinch! Great experience!" Emily called as she returned the Trapinch to his ball. "Goth, use Dark Pulse on the Natu!"
He was against hurting pokemon under usual circumstances. But these weren't normal circumstances, normal pokemon, this was about that natu, and it was his and not hers. "We'll see about that." Replied with a quick curl upwards of his lips and eyes that shone with thinly veiled cruelty, but he spared the bird and didn't kick it again, even if just to smite Emily because that was crossing dangerous borders.
When the trapinch fell, he had to admit he was surprised: yes, he'd brought a weakling out into the field, but he hadn't expected to overpower her weakling in such a short, record-breaking time. "Fall back." He didn't praise his pokemon, because that stirred up emotions and made them think he had attatchments (which he didn't). And it was just as well that he expected that from the mudkip in the first place, but not from that bird. "Night Shade." If it didn't have the decency to even dodge without him telling it to, then it could take hits like that. Take them the entire battle as long as they walked out here with that win.
That guy really had it coming. After this, he was going to get the beating of his life. Emily growled at him, eyes narrowing in defiance. She was really going to kick that guy's ass for being so mean!
"We're gonna show you! Goth, dodge and use Dark Pulse again!"
"Still can't do it?" Sneered as the dark energy hit the bird a second time and it gave a sharp cry of pain. "Maybe you deserve this, then." He sure believed that it did, and if it meant that this ended early, he'd make sure to let it know that it was at fault.
"Night Shade." Repeated it a third time, like a mantra, and the bird took some time to get its wits about it before releasing another patch of dark energy that very nearly mirrored the gothita's own.
Goth took the Night Shade but it didn't seem to affect her too much. But she was tiring out, and Emil could see that. They needed to end this, and quickly.
Again, the attacks came, and again, it didn't dodge, taking the two slaps to the beak and then just lying there, still against the ground. He scowled, recalling both of them a single flick of his wrist. He'd expected the natu to be pretty useless, but not that useless. At this rate it would have to get one-on-one training with him, and that wasn't going to be pretty.
For the time being, the battle had ended, and he turned to the girl, smirking. "Not bad." Closer to her now, stepping so that they were face to face but not showing his anger, because he had very little, it was to be expected. "Now, what was that about giving me a real kicking?"
natu + trapinch 1 lvl gothita + mudkip 2 lvl, sound good to you?
Tch. Emily's blood was boiling as the male walked closer to her after recalling his Natu. The poor thing had to be subjected to that? "Pathetic." she spat in his face as he got in her face, asking what she was going to do.
She wanted to slap him, but had a better idea instead. A red light appeared before Emily and she turned away, so a large Entei could appear between the two trainers.
"If I ever see you harming another pokemon again...You will pay." And with that she walked off, smirking to herself as the 'Entei' roared in Jayden's face.
:entei: actually zorua but HE DONT KNOW DAT ROAR ROAD MOTHA FUQER
It wasn't real. Not that he knew that for sure, but a weak girl with weak pokemon had no way of taming something as elusive and legendary as an Entei. Still, whatever imposter it was it was a good one, and as he stared into its eyes he could see fire burning within them, kindling something fierce. "We'll see." Repeated this for the third time, his eyes rolling in their sockets as he turned his back and closed his eyes, not bothering to leave.
He woke up with a cramp in his neck, some pretty bad bed-head, and a slick line of sweat that ringed his forehead like a tattoo.
