This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

She was beginning to hate this arena. It was the place she went when she had a dreadful task ahead of her, and her pokemon needed to become stronger for it. You could say that by signing up for the Eos Program, she'd signed up for the arena's daily grind too, but Neo considered this a trainer's work.
Gently, she sent the riolu out for a battle, nudging the pokemon into the battlefield proper. Atalanta waddled out into the middle, surprisingly steady for a baby pokemon. The bright lights of the stadium seemed to excite her, and she waved energetically to the imaginary crowd.
Neo waited for a challenger. Hopefully, they'd go easy on her.
The aron followed Ariel obediently into the arena, it seemed to enjoy the cries deep down even if Zahav wouldn't admit anything about it aloud. This was possibly the first time he had battled since he lost his Pokemon, and perhaps it showed because normally he'd never ever send out a baby pokemon to fight for him - it was considered suicide, but the aron wanted to do so and Yarok didn't. Perhaps he'd send Yarok in later for a bit of revenge battling. He took a look at his challenger, a girl and a Riolu.
The aron seemed to take interest in the pokemon and move itself out into the battle field. "Ladies first." Ariel announced as he pulled out his Pokedex, and ready to take this one down.
Neo too took the Aron's entry for her pokedex before she committed her energy to the battle at hand. Granted, with Atalanta egg-fresh, she wasn't sure this would be that much of a battle.
"So chivalry isn't dead," Neo commented. Not dead, but also perhaps not wise, although very much appreciated all the same. "Atalanta? Try a foresight."
Ariel took down the Riolu in his Pokedex, making sure that he got it just right. He didn't mind letting the girl have the first move, nor did she make Zahav dodge it, but he did prepare for the Riolu next attack.
Neo kept a straight face for a second before her lips quirked into a smirk, followed by something caught between a gruff chuckle and a giggle. She wasn't used to laughing anymore. "You're really going to say that after using harden? Really?"
More seriously, if the pokemon could increase it's defenses... this could be a very long fight. "Atalanta, quick attack."
Ariel laughed, it was nice to have a light-hearted fight. It had been a long time since he had one of those. "I wonder what's swimming in that mind of your's, miss." He looked at his Pokemon. "Harden before it comes at you." He hoped to get a laugh out of the girl, he didn't know if she'd laugh or slap him.
She watched the baby pokemon hit right into his baby pokemon, this would be the diaper fight of ages. "Zahav, tackle."
Ariel didn't bother to stop his laughter as the fighting type used endure. "Hey, I'm Ariel." He called out to her, glad that the pair was getting along. Even if Zahav got hurt, this battle was great.
She covered her ears through the screech, and Atalanta did too although it didn't help her as much from a point-blank range. "Hope that's not what you sound like."In bed.
Atalanta endured the tackle, wobbling unsteadily on her feet before lowering her head for a charge into another quick attack.
"I hope that's not what I sound like too." Zahav's screech was horrifying, and pain inducing. How could that even come out of a Pokemon? He even had a headache, by time he had recovered from his own pokemon's attack - Zahav was on the ground, passed out. Perhaps its own screech had hurt itself. He recalled the Pokemon. "Good one, Neo."He took out another pokeball, and kissed it as it fell to the ground releasing the Electrike inside.
The electrike looked like more a real challenge. She recalled the riolu, who was quite content to retreat to the cozy confines of her pokeball.
In a haze of red light, Hyperion appeared in the arena. The blitzle blinked, having never visited the dream world's arena before, but in the end, one arena was about the same as any other. He pawed the ground, and turned to face his opponent.
"Chivalry's dead!" she called out across the field. "Your move."
Ariel might have laughed if it wasn't for the fact that he could understand exactly why the poor blitzle was so afraid. Hell when he first released Mehirut it had attacked him, but luckily he rarely did that anymore. Without consent, Mehirut dodged a quick attack and but was hit by the second one. "Tackle, and howl." He ordered the Pokemon, but instead it used ice fang and leer, purposely disobeying Ariel. Ariel grumbled, wishing that his silly Pokemon would listen to him. A white mist started to seep out of Mehirut's mouth after it used leer, and then started its ice fang attack. The lightning pokemon looked like it had rabies.
The tackle didn't send Hyperion over, but he stumbled and then ran further, making as much distance as he could. Acting on instinct, he went to its old friend: the thunderwave.
"Don't suppose you feel up for another quick attack?" Neo asked hopefully.
The blitzle shook his mane adamantly: fuck no.
Maybe next time then. "He's awfully lively," Neo commented to Ariel.
