This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Things were unfamiliar now, especially with an evolved Molly on his hands. He was even less prepared for what that meant. The Umbreon padded beside her trainer into the arena, swishing her tail to and fro. It was as if nothing had changed, as if she were still an Eevee who could sit on his head if she pleased. Not the case anymore, especially with the way that her fur was sleek and black with glowing blue rings as opposed to plush and silver. On the inside though, she was the same old Eevee, and that's all that Mordecai had to tell himself.
"Are you ready for this?" he asked the Umbreon, who let out an eager bark in response.
Dirge was first up. Confident as always, he tumbled stylishly into the field. It was a good show of dexterity, but it was just showing off. Neo was kind of hoping someone could take a the baby pokemon down a peg or two.
"Good to see you again," she said. Sorry I've only brought riolu, she didn't say.
Dirge took his first turn to rev himself up with agility. <Ready or not!> he called, and that was all the warning the umbreon got before he rushed in for a quick attack.
In the back of his head, Mordecai wanted to say, Sorry, I've got the Gible with me again. But of course, he didn't say it.
Molly growled as the Riolu slammed into her side. <Well, you're full of energy,> she quipped.
The smaller Pokémon had bite, but not enough to knock the Umbreon over. She snarled, eyes glowing, before kicking a paw-ful of dust and sand in the Riolu's face. Either way, the Umbreon wasn't holding back punches. Her blue rings glowed as she barreled head-first into the Riolu with a Return.
Dirge grunted when the return hit, but he was with on the counter, followed with another quick attack.
It was a stronger attack than he'd expected--indeed, a stronger attack than he'd ever taken before, considering that (he didn't seem to understand) J had gone quite easy on him in previous fights.
"Endure," Neo cautioned, and the riolu agreed, bracing himself for impact.
Molly nimbly side-stepped the Counter, thanks to a little bit of dirt to the face. Sand-Attack was a simple yet effective move. Good thing too, considering that the Counter could have put a dent in the Umbreon's stamina. The Riolu slammed into her again with a Quick Attack, in which the Pokémon took an opportunity to throw her own weight at the Riolu with a Tackle.
She leaped back and glanced over her shoulder. Mordecai gave the Umbreon a quick nod. The Pokémon tilted her head up, making an earnest Wish to the Poké-gods to restore some of her strength.
"This isn't the same Riolu, is it?" Mordecai asked.
"The last riolu was vaccinated," Neo replied as neutrally as she could, trying not to let her opinion of Mordecai's IQ leak into the statement.
In response to the tackle, Dirge weathered the blow with endure's help, and he responded again with counter, followed by a quick attack--his preferred one-two combo.
Mordecai quickly got the hint and decided to avoid smalltalk with Neo.
Molly grimaced at the Counter attack, followed immediately by the Quick Attack. Luckily enough, the Wish came into play, and she found that she was steady on her feet once again. She sniffed at the Riolu, wondering where the little Pokémon's energy was coming from, before attacking with a second Return.
She dodged the Quick Attack this time, and lurched forward with all intentions to send another Return at the Pokémon. At this point, it was probably the Umbreon's strongest attack, considering that friendship was what her entire evolution was based upon it.
And while she surged towards the Riolu, the Pokémon kicked up another cloud of sand. Here came her next Sand-Attack.
Dirge withstood the attack! Beat up and tired, Dirge, fallen to a knee and breathing heavily, was for the first time (no thanks to J's generously unthreatening battles) tested. "Up on your feet," Neo commanded. "Counter."
He wasn't too steady on his feet, but he rushed in with counter followed by counter again.
The sands made one Counter fly by, but the other two Counters slammed into the Umbreon's sides, wearing heavier on her energy. "Stick it out a little longer, Molly," Mordecai called. The Umbreon raised her head and summoned the rest of her strength. There was an opening, and she was about to take it.
The riolu dodged the return like his life depended on it, which it didn't--but his continuing consciousness did.
He geared himself up for a rather predictable quick attack, but Neo interrupted, "Dirge, stop. Come back. You're tired, you fought well, there's no point in continuing. If this were against scourge, it's not about winning, it's about surviving--it'd be better to retreat. But this is an arena battle, and all that matters is that you fought well. So you're done here. You did good."
She recalled the riolu and sent out... yet another riolu.
"This is Athena. She's Atalanta's daughter. You fought Atalanta the other day."
Unsurprisingly, this riolu also opened with agility.
Atalanta had her own baby Riolu already? Well, that was fast. Mordecai raised a brow as the Riolu started off with an Agility as well. This was going to take some time.
"A little more, Molly," he said to the Umbreon, who lurched forward with a Tackle. Already, he was thinking about who to send in next. At this point, things were looking up to the Gible.
Mordecai could see that Molly was unsteady on her feet. With the two Counters, she'd fallen to the ground and was having a little trouble getting up again. He drew her Pokéball out of a pocket and returned her to the capsule. "Rest, Molly," he said to her. He hesitated for a second, quite certain that Neo remembered who he wanted to send in next very well. Now or never then. He tossed the Pokéball into the field, and out popped a familiar Gible.
"Achilles, are you ready?" he said, to which the dragon Pokémon snapped his jaws twice in response. He stomped his feet like a sumo wrestler, and flew in Athena's direction with a Tackle
