Her parents weren't actually of the rich and famous sort- just two of the many staff members needed to maintain the facilities- but she grew up around that sort of people, playing with their children on the beach. Her childhood was sheltered, her days spent along the beach, frolicking happily with the wild Pokemon and the vacationing children. What she discovered was that, though her human playmates always moved on, a Pokemon friend was a friend for life. As she grew older, the others paid attention to her less and less, and she spent more and more time alone with nature. People flocked to Sol, and all was good. Their little family certainly wasn't rich, yet they survived- until the Scourge arrived. It didn't affect them directly, but... Something about killer zombie Pokemon seemed to discourage tourists, and business died down. They floundered along, getting money where they could. She was forced to drop out of school, picking up odd jobs here and there to help her parents, while every day news of the Scourge got worse and worse. She couldn't stand it- catering to the whims of the rich while out there the Pokemon suffered. And so, even though she'd never actually been outside of her hometown, one day she just got up and left. She wrote a note to her parents and was gone to join the front lines. It didn't matter to her that her experience was minimal- even though she'd never really seen the Scourge before, she knew Pokemon better than she knew other people.
