Devoe Kevyn
Twenty One
Trainer,
Rustboro City
Needy, childish, and clingy are some of the most apt phrases used to describe Devoe. Devoe is a young man who lives to be a little boy- his ambition is zero and motivational drive is none; he finds no pleasure in following the typical mode of life in thinking ahead or planning out the next ten years of his life like the average person his age. He doesn't feel comfortable dealing with responsibilities and having set goals presented to him generally result in an annoying reaction of immature apathy. Growing up, his parents were highly goal orientated individuals, and he witnessed first hand the irritating commotion that takes over someone's life when they chase after something; always having a deadline to worry about, something to do, a schedule to follow. Even social life was overtaken by it- that cocktail party or mixer was just another chance at networking for career advancement. As a result, Devoe developed a distaste for this lifestyle, and while it's normal for people his age to dislike 'having too much on their plates', Devoe simply hates having much of anything on his. He would much rather have days empty of obligation, and its only to please his parents (and keep their funding) that he's bothered attending college at all.
Because of this, and his general nature, Devoe comes across as irresponsible, unstable, and generally too much of an airhead to function in society. While not exactly quick to do this, he does usually end up proving these impressions of him wrong- when it's something he's interested in, Devoe is capable of showing intense dedication, skill, and effort. Unfortunately, just like his attitude, diet, and everything else about him, these interests are more appropriate for a twelve year old. Where his motivations and hobbies are concerned, Devoe could get along well with a sixth grader. He loves video games more than anything, and generally any free time he can get is spent playing them in his dorm room, hanging around unabashedly with the forcibly freed basement dwellers on his campus. He actively plays trading card games and usually schedules his weekends around a game of D&D, and his late mornings are usually dedicated solely to level grinding. Besides being an avid gamer, he's also an insanely addicted web surfer, constantly on forums and *chans and keeping up with all the latest Youtube trends and webcomics. With interests like these, it goes without saying that Devoe has also slipped into the realm of otaku-ness. He follows anime and manga religiously, and increased his computer's memory for the sole purpose of fitting more fanart into it. Oh, and strategic roleplaying hand held games- he pwns you at them. So yes, he's quite the loser.
Which isn't so bad considering that he's not a total loser. See, Devoe actually has something called 'charisma'. Or maybe it's empathy... or contagious hyper activity?
Devoe grew up in Rustboro City, the son of two workaholic Devon Corp workers. While they loved each other very dearly, Devoe was always at odds with his parents. Their work ethic, always laboring to help Devon against its Silph Co competition simply didn't rub off on their son the way their natural genius did. Devoe grew up stumbling from achievement to achievement in the way of a half-renaissance man- brilliantly, but lacking in motivation the same he did in effort. Opting out of the traditional pokemon journey at ten, Devoe devoted his time to leisure and study, contenting himself with family pets and the pokemon of young trainers he routinely befriended. Generous to a fault, Devoe was that man who would give out his parent's stash of TMs to young trainers, or allow them to nap on his couch. And so this went for a few years, Devoe occupying his days with sleep, games, friends and drink, all the while just barely living up to his parent's expectations.
Now having ended his senior year at Rustboro University, armed with a degree in Digital Humanities and Studio Arts, Devoe found himself facing employment at Devon Corp with his parents. Preferring to find his own lot in life, he applied to be one of the recruited trainers by Kohaku. He would rather face down diseased pokemon than a nine to five job. Conveniently rejecting the position of researcher, he gathered his things, and now finds himself in the Kohaku Region.
