It was finally time. He could walk. He could run. Without wheezing or coughing. Without doubling over in pain. The strength was back in his body now. The scar tissue was healed. As a bonus, he could almost see out of his left eye, despite the damage.
This was as good as it was going to get for him.

He walked into the Ranger’s Union without so much as a falter. This wasn’t his first calling, but he’d make sure it was his true calling. He couldn’t have a team of pokemon. Not anymore. Not after that.
Just a few. And his own strength.
It was important that he was able to fight as well. To contribute.
Too much of him was in the stomachs of the Scourge. There was no way he could be an idle participant.

“Raza Karimi. I’m here for a pokemon.”
There wasn’t really an option in his voice. This was not the same as asking admittance. He wasn’t pushy, his voice was soft, but it was also firm. He was one who had already chosen to pour everything that he was into this singular goal.

Sa'di looked up from her work. For a moment, she didn't say anything, and her expressional was analytical, observant, but not yet passed any judgment. For rangers, this was the moment of truth. She would turn you away, or she would find you worthy. Unworthy was not an insult; unworthy was most people, whose calling lied elsewhere. No shame in that.

But Raza was weighed in the balance and found worthy.

Sa'di straightened up, nodded. "Good. Karimi--I remember. You're lucky to be alive; I hope you stay lucky, but I hope you become strong too."

She indicated an are to the side with a wave of a hand. "There are pokemon here for the same reason as you. They come and go as they wish, but most of them should be over there. Go to them, talk to them. If they like you, they might become your partner. If not, just leave them be. They'll give you the same courtesy."

Raza didn’t fidget under the stare, instead opting to stand quietly and wait. This was perhaps the most calm he’d felt in over a year. Focusing on something seemed to help quite a bit, and he was certainly focused just then.
The nod was all he needed to know he’d passed. Still, he flinched slightly at her comment. He didn’t exactly want to be well known for having been half eaten in Decima.
Haha. The Half Eaten Wonder Boy.

“Thank you.”
He bowed his head slightly, and then walked over to the crowd of pokemon milling about. They all glittered in unusual shades, a sign of their vaccination. He walked into their midst, looking down at them all quietly. It was a little…jarring to be so close to pokemon again after so long. Some part of him might always equate them to his team, and to the warped pokemon that destroyed so much.
He found himself staring steadily at an aron, who was staring quite the same back. Kneeling momentarily, he reached out toward the small, sturdy pokemon and it allowed him to pat it on the head quite easily. Standing, he made his way back to Sa’di, and the aron quietly followed after him.
“I think this one will do.”
