This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

She quietly tip-toed around the little boarded-over alleys, Electabuzz at her back like he'd take a bullet for her. Her eye spied through a peephole, and then, she decided it was better to sneak into this abandoned house than go out on the street. Bacchus town was like the moon. Like some abandoned theme park shaped like a village. Weeds had taken over the street, splitting through cracks in the cement.
It was a funny question, really. Why would she ever leave Nerio. It had been her goal - get something to protect herself - in this case, one of Eos's fancy deals - and then get back home and twiddle her thumbs while waiting for Daddy. It wasn't supposed to be an adventure. It was just getting by, living like rat like she her family did before her. Potted plants saw more light than her.
But Regina didn't like waiting, and the more she did, the more she worried and the more her imagination overtook her. Her father's absence made her pack up what she could of her lab and sneak out.
With an ironic chuckle, she opened the door of the house, and it squeaked open to reveal a dingy kitchen by the backdoor. It was clear - at least, this room was. She shut the door behind her while Electabuzz took the initiative to go off and secure the rest of the home.
"I guess I am a hypocrite," she muttered softly, checking cabinets for cans of food.
his riolu was on edge from the first creak of the door on the first floor swinging open. by regina's second step into the house, zahir was sitting up in bed, one hand reaching for his mask, before he hesitated.
whomever was down there hadn't seen him, probably didn't know he was here. there was no need to be batin, if he didn't want to be. the batin narrative would be easier, yes, but zahir had perfectly good reasons for being in bacchus as well.
the riolu, crouched by the door, looked at him. zahir tossed him the mask and cocked his head at the window: "get out."
his mind made up, he rolled out of bed and glanced around. traveling pack, shoes by the door, ID in his back pocket. not much else he could do right now. zahir began padding down the hall, still shirtless and with his hair mussed from sleep, to make his way to the kitchen. whether he ran into the electabuzz or regina first would be a matter of fate.
With squeaks and thumps, she ran through all the cabinets. Most were empty or filled with useless things like powdered soap, tools, buckets, rags, and other cleaning supplies. There were packets of spices too -but nothing really to sustain her. She was so hungry, her stomach eating away at itself. She sighed with moldy cornflakes on her hands, having dumped them out to see if they were good.
Opening the last drawer, shoved way into the back, was a jar with dark contents and a red checkered cloth napkin on top. Her hand shoved in like a child, pulling glass jar filled with a deep red goo. She popped the lid - an a sweet, sugary aroma rose up like the sun. Little balls of soft fruit glowed in a bath of crimson goo. Briefly, she was reminded of the substance that leaked from the Jynx's hollowed out skull, but this had the complete opposite affect on her. She plunged her finger in and scooped the sugary gel into her mouth.
Meanwhile in the hallway, the thunder ogre met a shirtless man. The man groped the wall for guidance while the he peered from around the staircase. Electabuzz used thunderwave, its whiskers crackling, to knock the man out. If it worked, he would drag him back to Regina like the troll under the bridge brings its goddess a snack.
(I don't actually have cheri berries so consider these as none-battle/ prop item orz. also, i promise i won't hurt him if zahir goes along with the electabuzz. it will just turn into a lot of teasing and/or talking. probably about food.)
batin wanted to put the electabuzz on the ground with a well-placed sign. but in zahir's story, that wasn't a luxury he could afford.
instead he took the hit and felt the electricity crackle through his body, sending him crashing to his knees on the floor. his eyes blinked up at the electabuzz, but any attempt to move just sent another twitch of lightning through his veins, keeping him motionless in place.
idly he wondered how much more trauma his body could suffer, than dismissed it.

Regina had half-way gobbled up the jar of preserves when she'd found a whole cupboard filled up with even more. She'd taken them all out and piled them onto the table to realize her good fortune. She began sorting them by what seemed to be made of the same berry, fighting off the temptation to open them all and try each one.
When her Electabuzz pulled on the back of her lab coat, she turned around and gasped.
"You found a man! Oh my gosh, is he dead???" The Kid shook his head to say 'no'. He had pulled him in by the arm, dragging the body across the floor like a cat a lifeless mouse. "You paralyzed him?" Regina asked, concerned. "I'm terribly sorry, mister, but given the times, you can't be too careful." She looked down at the fellow, wiping the away the fruit stains on her lips. Then she bent down and propped him up against the kitchen wall. She wondered if he was conscious. He sagged like a doll.
She pressed a hand to his bare chest to keep him from falling to the side while straddling him. She looked intently at his face to see if he were anyone she knew. Blonde hair, pert nose, lazy eyes. A real mystery man. She pursed her lips, and then, muttered "Hold on," while she dug through his pockets.
She found an ID, and she read it while losing interest in holding up. "You're from Nerio, huh?" she asked, expecting a sign from him. "W-why are you living in this house? - I've been so hungry and I found these delicious Cheris...." OH! He couldn't speak. She would have to do something about that.... His blonde head fell forward to rest on her chest while she used both hands to rummage around her bag. It took a bit of time - her bag was filled with some jars of food. Finally, she pushed him back against the wall and sprayed his jaw and tongue so he could speak.
zahir just came along for the ride as the electabuzz manhandled him, and then the assumed owner of the pokemon is on him, soft hands on his chest, digging through his pockets. there's not much he can do but acquiesce.
batin knows her though, those glasses, pouting lips--even the casual ease with which she strips him of any vestiges of useful information. he's seen her before, in the ruins of another home, although he doubts this one once belonged to her as well. she seems skittery, where before she was self-assured, wrapping her belonging around her like a robe.
when she sprays his mouth down he makes an exaggerated show of stretching his jaw, peeling back his lips and running his tongue over his teeth. swallowing once, and then he speaks.
"i'm not living here," zahir says. "i was staying for the night. staying outside seemed unwise in light of recent events, and i needed somewhere to sleep. i woke up when i heard you come in and ran into your electabuzz. no hard feelings. i understand what it's like."

"Y-you were staying here? You're really lucky," she looked at him again as if she were smelling him like a dog. "Really something. Incredible. You came all the way out here? Are you a trainer? - I mean, I am very hungry...." she trailed off. She picked up the jar she had been finishing up and she scrapped the last of the ruby goo with her spoon like a raccoon. Finally, she picked up the spray bottle again, and began to spritz and rub the rest of his face and neck to reactivate the muscles before she eventually got to his arms. He was very twitchy under her hands, and really emphasized how dry his tongue was.
"What kind of food?" she asked with a foiling wetness in her own mouth.
2tsunz (yeahhh too lazy to every bold dialogue ever again i think. why did i ever before?)
"lucky?" zahir looked about the gray, mournful looking ruins. "maybe. better than sleeping outside. not better than a four star hotel in nerio."
he stretched his arms out gratefully, cracking his knuckles.
"standard stuff for traveling. some dried jerky, crackers, a few drinks. some fruit, maybe. can't remember. and no, i'm not a trainer. don't even have a pet pokemon. i'm traveling to decima though, if you're headed in that direction."
"You don't have a Pokemon with you?" How had he gotten by? Maybe he was like those survivors out in the distance who figure out tricks against the scourge.
"If it's any help - I'll trade you a Pokemon for your food! I-I can't think of anything more fair. What's in Decima...?" She asked softly, with a slow and methodical curiousity in her words. This man - everything about him - was a curiosity. "Mmmm. Where are your cloths too?" She asked, her eyes had wandered with a judgmental flatness.
