This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

The Archen gloated, preening like a peacock in the air over its victory. Jasper shouted across the arena again - "Don't be discouraged - you're fighting pretty well!"
The blitzle leaped out, bristling with electricity and launched itself at Jasper's bird. Both attacks hit, and the bird fell crippled to the ground as the paralysis bound its wings.
"I'm fine." Maybe a little bit irritated that marshtomp let itself go down without a bang, like he'd hoped, but other than that, okay. Not elated, but not tempermental yet, because things weren't necessarily turning sour anytime soon.
"Charge." Blitzle shivered, visibly, from head to toe, closing its eyes and scuffing hooves on the ground. It shivered, electricity sparking off like it was trying to protect the creature from that piercing gaze.

The archen squirmed uselessly on the gym floor as the Blitzle geared itself for a more powerful strike. It squawked desperately, shivering with a potent jumpiness. Jasper watched with a mark of concern. His pokemon was cornered. "This kid's something," he muttered to himself.
Hesitated, just for a moment, a second, the gears in his brain turning furiously. "Shock wave." Blitzle, still a bit shaken from the archen's - surprisingly - intimidating glare, buckled up its hind legs and shot forward, lunging at the bird with no shortage of noise in the process.

Free! Jasper could breath, at least. He was getting pretty into this battle, evident by his balled up fists and louder, faster shouting. The Archen swooped away, losing a few feathers in its rush. The ripple of electricity around the blitzle caused an edge of fright in its movements now.
Agate dodged shock wave. Agate used scary face. Agate used bite.
Blitzle gave a slight whinny when the archen took to the air again, shaking off the last bits of electricity on the way. But as naive and hasty as it was, instinct remembered the glare of the fossil's face and it turned away this time, shutting both eyes tight even when it was sure the attack was over and instead, felt teeth pinch into its hide once before it was gone.
"Charge, Shock wave." Jayden called, still watching, still waiting, still wondering what else Jasper had up his sleeves.
The electric move slammed into it, amber feathers faltering in mid-air. The electricity ripped through the bird's delicate body, surging violently as it caused its limbs to spastically quake as if it were in a seizure. Then, it fell to the ground in a smoking heap, and with great anger and ferocity, leaped up at the blitzle.
The piercing gaze that the archen threw its way didn't make blitzle quake quite as much as it had the last few times, but the creature still saw that malice, stumbling back as it tore itself away from sharp teeth as they dug into its hide and then, lifted off.
Silence, a few seconds from Jayden's end before the trainer licked his lips, uttering a short call of "Again." as he put a finger up to the upper lip, like he was thinking about something important.

The Archen dodged the thunderwave, but as the second pulse shove through it's body, it screeched, and fell into a smoking, twitching pile on the ground. Jasper jogged across the arena, returning the fried bird to its ball. With easy cheer, he laid a heavy hand on his challanger's shoulder. The kid seemed delicate for a trainer with such skill -- the trainer liked what he saw.
"You did really well. Scourge won't know what'll hit'em!" Then he shoved a hand into his pocked and pulled out a badge.
Burning. Smelled it, tinged in the air, smoke curling off the avian's feathers as it fell to the ground. Blitzle let out a whinny of triumph and twisted its head to stare at him, eyes shining. He gave a nod at the creature, twisting the sphere in his hand and recalled it without so much as a sound.
"I'll make sure of it." Was what he said, but the scourge were out there, everywhere - it didn't matter if he didn't care about them, because as long as he was out there and they were out there, paths were destined to cross. "Thanks." Jasper was supposed to be easy, they said, training wheels. But was he?
