This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

The boy came confidently today, unlike he had for his first gym challenge. Elias no longer had a doubt in his mind- his pokemon were strong and capable, and he would win. There was no need for nerves. Cynder, perched on his shoulder, felt the exact same way. The bird gave a loud shriek, attempting to summon the gym leader himself, but Elias stepped forward, giving a call himself.
"I'm here to challenge the gym!"

the darkness welcomed the challenger. there was nothing that esme was afraid of -- if anything, should the challenger lose to her, he would have no place in fighting the scourge. she was no jasper when it came to gym battles.
"very well," esme said, expecting elias to know the rules. single battle, three pokémon each.
He couldn't see a thing, but Elias was ready to get started anyway. The boy had a spring in his step as he went a few steps further into the gym. Vullaby flapped it's wings rapidly, attempting to DEFOG the cave. It worked slightly, making it a little easier for the bird to see. This would help him slightly in combat.
"Ready when you are!"

esme's shuppet entered the fray, quickly locating the vullaby in the dark. the ghostly pokémon whirled around, releasing a confuse ray towards the bird. circe then melted into the shadows of the caverns for a shadow sneak.
the gym leader noticed that the ghostly air lingering about the cave had disappeared, but paid it no heed. the darkness was still ever-present.
Cynder gave a loud screech as he ducked under the confuse ray. The cowboy wouldn't be bothered with such nonsense! Quickly, he sprinted up to the ghostly pokemon (where he thought the shuppet was) and disappeared into the darkness himself, giving a few rapid pecks and kicks from behind the ghost's back. The FAINT ATTACK would not miss or be dodged.
But his confident attack was interrupted with a shadow sneak, which crashed into him harshly.

circe had emerged from the shadows to find that its attack had struck true, before it rocketed towards the ceiling of the cave after being struck by faint attack. the shuppet then let loose another confuse ray at the bird pokémon. following up the confuse ray was a shadow ball.
Both attacks crashed into his rear, sending his flying towards the wall of the cave. Cynder gave a loud shriek as his body fell to the ground with a soft 'thump.' The bird was beginning to see stars. Regardless, he attempted to shake it off and tried to use another FAINT ATTACK, this time choosing to give it all of his body strength. It would not miss.

the faint attack hit the shuppet. it didn't mind that it was somewhat battered already, but esme watched on in silence. "spite," said esme, and circe promptly went to work on sealing the vullaby's ability to use its faint attack. "shadow ball, once you're done." a ball of ghostly energy then spiralled towards the baby vulture.
These shadow balls didn't hurt Cynder one bit. He could take ghostly attacks all day- he would, if he had too. Flailing his wings, the bird sent a GUST flying at the enemy ghost. That'd show him!

circe was trapped by the mean look and the gust swirled the shuppet into the air. it then used shadow sneak to snake closer to the vullaby, before attempting to screech at it.
Cynder was able to perform his FAINT ATTACK again, putting all of his might into it after taking both of the shuppet's attacks. The bird gave a screech himself- but it wasn't for battle. It was a screech of anger, and it echoed in the cavern, over and over. spite lowers PP by four, and this is my fourth post since then, so I figure he's freed from the spite
