This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

well, this was creepy. the fact that the gym was a giant cemetery was unsettling enough -- the fact that there were people actually living down there, protecting a bunch of dead bodies ... that was downright freaky.
pushing away the heebie-jeebies, delilah entered the gym. "yo. anyone here?" she shuddered. "preferably someone alive?"
Andromeda lurked in the shadows. The yamask carried a mournful mask, and she chose to materialize out of the darkness smack dab in front of Delilah's face. Underneath its weeping mask, it cackled, and then disappeared again.
"If you're looking for the living, you may have come to the wrong place," Esme said, too coldly for her words to be properly snide. Make no mistake though: she dripped disdain. "I am Esme. I guard the dead. What do you require?"
delilah jumped in shock when the yamask appeared -- out of nowhere! -- in front of her, the only thing keeping her from screaming being her own self-control. she heard esme speak, forcing her eyebrow to stay down. "well, if i'm not here to visit the dead -- may they rest in peace -- then ..." the woman eyed esme.
"i suppose i'm here to fight you." she ignored the disparaging tone in the leader's voice.
The yamask was too pleased at itself for catching the woman off guard, and then it was all the more pleased to hear that there was a battle in wait. It volunteered itself for battle.
"A decent enough purpose," Esme replied, as if she'd weighed the statement in a balance and found it disappointingly worthy. "This is my challenge: three pokemon, single battles. Should you win, I gift you a badge and some mere trifles to send you on your way. Should you lose, I send you on your way without any gifts."
the woman bowed at esme. "i'll try my best." she released her lucario in a flash of slightly-blinding light -- she has to blink away the spots for a brief moment -- and gently patted bael's head. "let's go -- foresight."
with a quiet growl, bael focused his vision on the yamask as if drawing an invisible target. his fists curled.
You couldn't see it in the dark, but Esme's eyes narrowed, her lips curled into something caught between a smile--approval--and a grimace--annoyance. Foresight was a pain.
Yamask used an acc boost will-o-wisp and shadow ball.
she was glad they worked on speed; with a burst of energy the lucario dodged the incoming sphere of ghostly power, leading him straight into some small flames. he winced as he was burned, but delilah waved him onward. "dark pulse and swords dance."
bael fired off a wave of dark energy from his palms, pumping himself up for the next turn.
lucario used dark pulse, swords dance lucario dodged shadow ball, was burned (turn 1/3)
The yamask tumbled through the air. Its mask clattered to the ground, and the ghost disappeared. Esme recalled her from battle.
"Achilles," Esme called, and a haunter appeared in the yamask's place. The haunter encased itself in a wreathe of flames and drove at the lucario with a fire punch.
Well, at least that Yamask was down -- the arrival of a Haunter, however, made the woman shake her head.
At least there was detect.
The flames were harmless against the barrier, and Delilah bit her lip as her Lucario shuddered. "C'mon, just a little more. Foresight, dark pulse, hi jump kick."
lucario used aforementioned moves because +atk boost. and then lucario faints.
The haunter fled battle, and Esme brought out a litwick to replace him.
The foul play caught it in the face, and the litwick--rather surprised to be sent out so soon--ran about trying to protect the flame atop its head like a slapstick comedian. Flame secured, the litwick turned to the houndoom.
The fire attacks bounced ineffectively off of the Houndoom's body, and he howled in retaliation. Naberius took the initiative to retaliate with another foul play, aiming squarely at the candle pokemon.
houndoom has flash fire not flame body oops and will-o-wisp has no effect houndoom used foul play
