This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

prequal -- i'm going to make a request that this friendly poochyena meet regina again? to summarize the thread, she spent time with it in the woods, but didn't capture it because it was happy with its pack. Otherwise, any wild is cool - scourge too but I'm technically already in an event thread?
It had been idiotic to take this little short-cut through the woods - and she was alone too - but she wanted to get by Lake Pax as quickly as possible. The doom of the landscape rung like Chernobyl. A dirty map was scrunched in one hand, the other reaching out to trees for support. The peat of the ground was soft under her boots, the land overwhelmed by putrid, stagnant water. Her Golbat hovered behind her flapping it's leathery wings in great whumps, but the spookiness of her companion made the threat of the bog a friend instead.
Her pack was gone. They had traveled a long way from wherever she'd first met them, but she didn't mind the distance. As long as she was with her family, nothing else mattered. But even the pack leader couldn't have seen the scourge pokemon coming.
It was a blur to the small pokemon. There was fighting and growling and blood. So she did the only thing she knew how to do. She ran. The bog was thick with fog and muck that clung to her paws. But she kept running because she was scared and didn't know what else to do.
After running a great distance, the mightyena finally stopped, catching her breath. Her eyes looked around for something--anything--that was familiar. But all she could see was fog.

When she heard the heavy panting, she stopped, and she held up her hand for the Golbat to relax itself. Flopping in the air, up and down, it had difficulty sticking to one point in space as if it were perpetually swarming.
Regina didn't want to bump into anything nasty. Her companions had said this place was a nest of poison - worse than Nerio's sewers - and it would be best to get through without a single encounter. Still, nothing could ever be promised no matter how quietly and carefully she tread.
As the great haunches and mud-stained coat loomed into view, the researcher choked, and then hurried closer to the wild pokemon. "Oh no-" she said approaching, and then stopping with the fear that it might be infected. "Shhh- I just want to help you," she said softly, with great trepidation and to inspect the exhausted dog.
She didn't recognize it - but then she saw it. The little knick on its ear in the same place as the pup from Ceres. "N-no... What happened...?" she asked coming to her knees.
As she caught her breath, the Mightyena's ears perked up. Someone was close. Too close. Her nose sniffed the air as the scent neared; why was if so familiar? As if she knew who it was...but memories were hazy at the moment and she was too fatigued to really care about the past. All she needed now was a safe place to rest and hide...
But the thing came nearer, to which the pokemon growled. Although she was tired, she'd definitely put a fight if she needed to! But the growling stopped as she recognized the woman now before her. Was it really her though? From all that time before? Mightyena sniffed at her, whining slightly as if to ask 'is it really you?'
Regina knelt as the cold, wet nose pressed into her hand, that soft whine issuing from torn up pokemon's muzzle. Her palm welcomed the investigation, her other arm wrapping around the dog's neck to hold it close. It's sleek black was damp, matted, covered with unhealthy burrs and tangles. She stroked its coat, the tangles catching in her fingers as if clinging to her.
Soon she found its face again. She held the mightyena's head in her two hands, searching its face, and then she closed her eyes and kissed that black nose as if it belonged to a frog prince.
The kiss was nice, although the Mightyena stiffened at her touch. Yes, this was the same woman from before, but that didn't mean she wanted to trust said woman yet. They'd just met after all this time, for Arceus' sake! So the pokemon pulled away, coming to stand on her feet although a bit shakily.
"Hurrrr..." she growled, but it wasn't a threatening growl. More like a 'what are you doing here?' growl of confusion. Although the Mightyena wasn't conpletely trusting of this girl yet, she didn't want her to become attacked like the rest of her pack had been.
To try and convey this, she looked at the girl before turning her head back to where she'd come from, letting out a whine. 'Danger that way' she tried to convey, her eyes locking onto the human's, as if pleading for her to run away.

The dog pulled away, anxiety in her feet, and Regina wished it were less wild. It was not her old, and never would be, but that was difficult to accept. Her eyes flicked in the direction that the dog whipped its head, paws pressing up and down, teething revealing themselves in an expressive growl. Regina bit her lip and crouched down, trying to look through the fog. She pulled herself behind a fallen tree, and whispered, "I-is something out there?"
At her question, the Mightyena nodded and whined. The things were coming. And for some reason, she felt very overprotective of this human. This human who had played with her when she was just a pup. But back then she'd had a family to go home to...This time she didn't.
So the dog pokemon just stood in front of the woman, keeping her eyes peeled for any sign of attacking pokemon. When she found none, she turned back around to nod at her, as if saying the coast was clear.

The swamp wolf had a new edge in her mind, Regina realized. An aloofness that reminded her of the silent thugs she never spoke with, but had business with her father. That yellow quickness in its eye mingled with something else. A fierce and long look, never evasive. The scientist wondered what was one its mind as she pulled out her pokedex and quickly noted its evolution. How it had gotten all the way out here defeated her - it had been happy in Ceres - which meant it would be her job to bring her back one day.
But first, this swamp and its fog. The mightyena was ready to continue, and she stepped after it trusting its nose more than her two eyes. The trees wove around them like dead spider legs, and suddenly, she said, "Wait." She knelt down, patted the grounds, willing the dog to come closer with the needle of a vaccine hidden in her fist.
As they walked along, the Mightyena stopped when the woman asked her to wait. Looking over her shoulder, she noted said woman had bent down. Why? Had she seen something? The wolf turned around and headed back to Regina, sniffing the air to find at least a hint of what had made her stop.
She was too focused on the area around her to even notice the hidden vaccine inside Regina's palm.

She lifted her hand to pet the black fur, muttering sweet nothings and cooing noises. She properly inspected the animal now - like a vet, looking its ears, its eyes, gently lifting up her black and pink lips to see the white of her teeth. She was all right - a few laceration and some malnourished - but nothing a rest and a steak at Decima couldn't fix.
"It's all right, girl. I just want to make sure you don't change at all. I-I just want to help you." The gleam on the slim needle was still hidden in her fist, which she lifted - hidden - as if to pet behind the soft ears. "Don't worry." Her fingers started to press the thick fur aside.
To the Mightyena's surprise, she was okay with Regina poking her and prodding her in different ways. She felt like she was being taken care of by a mother, and she even let out a happy grunt of affection sometime during her check up.
But the happy feeling didn't last long. A rustle in the grass nearby made the wolf's ears perk and her haunches flex. Standing, the Mightyena saw a feral Manectric coming their way, teeth barred and ready for a fight.
The Mightyena looked to Regina, as if asking for direction on what to do.

Regina withdrew the needle at the noise, pulling it quickly behind her back as another dog sprung from the bushes. It growled up a storm, threatening to attack, and Regina flashed out her Pokedex as it paced closer. She wobbled backwards while the little device scanned the creature - bones revealing themselves as if X-rayed - her eyes meeting the Mightyena's expectant look.
"Get some sand in it's face, and haul it down with a bite - um - don't be too rough though. I would rather get away but-" The manetric could easily lay a hit on them, even if the Mightyena was quick on its legs. The Golbat flapped behind her head, disliking the cackling sparks on the Manectric's teeth.
The wolf saw the needle; what was that all about? she stared expectantly at Regina, as if that was more important than the fact that some wild dog was trying to attack. But when she gave orders the Mightyena responded, using sand attack and bite on the attacker.
The Manectric took both attacks, growling out as the sand his his face. The bite struck a chord that seemed to piss him off even further, and he retaliated with his own attacks. First a leer, then a spark of electricity shot from his body toward the Mightyena.

Regina winced as she shoved the needle back into her pack. This had been a sloppy day, and she didn't know how to pull herself together around the dog. What she was allowed to do it. Would it understand? It was for the best, perhaps, whether or not it thought she would hurt it.
Sand hung on the Manetric's eyelashes, and the curl of its lips had no effect and perhaps even appeared mildly comical. The leer missed because of the sand attack. "D-dodge it!" She shouted as sparks of electricity gathered around the top of the Manectric's head, "And gather yourself together for an attack! Sing, or howl, you know-!?"
