This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

alia feels almost blinded by all the lights in this city, but her eyes have had long enough to adjust by now. the tynamo beside her relishes at the modernity, and alia figures that she could learn to like it too. of course she would! she's not going to lose to camus.
the giant billboards for the food that they can get in this city have certainly helped considerably. after living on microwavables for a while, alia is dying to try some urban favorites.
the streets are bustling at this hour, except for the narrow alley strips between the buildings. maybe alia would have passed this particular one if tynamo hadn't noticed a shadow and paused.
his curious nature was probably going to get them killed one day. alia kind of liked that about him.
a human and his pokémon were passing out flyers, and upon noticing alia, the figure approached her, holding out a flyer. his grin was easy, charming. by his side was a cacturne, who held out the flyers to her as well.
it was a flyer on the rebuilding of bellona hills. this man probably was a part-time worker despite being an eos personnel; hey, everyone needed some way to survive in the city.
alia accepts both of the fliers, seeing no harm in doing so. she could always pass the extra off to a friend, depending on what the flyer contained.
"woah, i didn't get the news - no wonder the scourge corpses have been plentiful lately" she speaks as if she has known this man for all of her life. "did you get to see things firsthand, then?"
the tynamo only looks up at the cacturne and vows to be bigger than him. one day.
the flyer didn't contain much, except for the choices that the citizens (or people in nerio, really) had before the locals started rebuilding the area. there were also sketches of the planned development on the flyers. at least it was something to look forward to in the gloom and doom.
"yeah," said the man cheerfully, "me and my cacturne." the golden pokémon by his side gave a small wave, before giving out some of its flyers to passers-by. he didn't seem to mind alia's tone in speaking to him. "we were fighting on bellona hills for a bit, and when the scourge retreated, we were given these to hand out." he held up the flyers.
"that's great! congrats!" then she backtracks a little, realizing what she just said. "on bellona's liberation i mean." she didn't mean to refer to his night job, not that she would have cared about it specifically. alia just didn't like being misconstrued when she meant something else.
"hey, i gotta run along to pax. researcher stuff, yanno" alia figures that if he's eos, then he wouldn't care if she scanned his cacturne. "afraid that i can't stay for long, but feel free to tell the higher-ups that it's cool if they want to use any pokemon stored in my pc for the reconstruction effort. i'll live. i only need my five for now, anyway"
"congratulations to you too," the man replied genially. really, bellona's liberation as just as much his effort as everyone else. even if alia hadn't been fighting on the frontlines, it was the thought that counted. he grinned and nodded at her words.
"why pax, though?" he said, frowning slightly. "isn't that a dangerous place?" the man rubbed the back of his head, but didn't pay it too much heed. "if you're a researcher, feel free to scan my cacturne." at the mention of its name, the creature walked over, and waited for alia to point her pokédex at it. "in that case, i ought to take down your eos registration number ... hang on."
he retrieved his c-gear, and passed it to alia. "just contact yours here, and i'll pass on the information to the higher-ups. thanks!"
that's right. regardless of which town she hails from, a victory against the scourge is a victory for them all, isn't it?
"cos decima is in that direction" she says it like it's the simplest thing in the world. "that's why. and i don't mind if i help myself!"
the pokedex flashes as the cacturne's data is registered. "thanks, bro"
alia doesn't think twice about giving her information to this stranger. in a world that threatens to be decimated by the scourge, suspicion among strangers is hardly the first thing on anyone's mind. she hands back the c-gear after inputting all the fields. "well, see you around - good luck, man"
with that, she walks back towards nerio's lights, her tynamo floating behind her.
