This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

The warehouse was dark and, admittedly, a little bit creepy, but it was also free of people, at least for the moment. That made Ava feel more comfortable. She'd found that she got along with Pokemon much better than with humans. Maybe it was just because they couldn't tease her about how socially inept she was.
The female Larvesta, whom she had named Tephra, scuttled ahead of Ava and into the warehouse through a low hole in the ground. The researcher paused, considering the size of the hole and whether or not she could fit through it. Eventually she managed to squeeze through, and found the bug- and fire-type waiting for her, perched upon some debris. Tephra did not give her trainer time to pause, moving over the various boxes and scraps in the warehouse, exploring. Ava perched on a tall crate and just watched, not up to crawling all over this musty old place.
She pulled the Pokedex from her bag and opened it. Perhaps now would be a good time to study her new Pokemon. For a while, she sat and watched Tephra explore, noting movement patterns and the way the insect folded back her pointed horns to squeeze through small spaces. But she had come here to find wild Pokemon, and knew that this moment of pause would not last.
TAGS mod NOTES +1 entry to Ava's dex? am I doing that right?
The Purrloin was the queen of the warehouse, or at least, she liked to think that she was. It was more the fact that there was no one else in the Letun Warehouses that allowed her to take the crown into her paws without much fuss (not that she minded, of course). The cat Pokémon sat daintily upon a crate and licked at a paw. Grooming was always relevant in the cat's schedule.
The warehouse was abandoned, but the Purrloin was fairly oblivious to this fact. After all, who needed an audience when she was already absorbed in how glossy her coat was, or how long her tail was? There was no need for territory, and for those who trespassed into it, they answered only to her.
So the Purrloin fixed her eyes upon a purple-haired girl and a Larvesta. She wrinkled her nose. Putrid, putrid bug Pokémon.
<State your business,> the cat Pokémon purred.

The insect's eyes registered the movement before her trainer's. Tephra turned to face the feline Pokemon. Already the Larvesta disliked the Purrloin--how dare she act so high and mighty? She didn't look so tough. Tephra was eager to show off for her new trainer. "<My business is not your business,>" she hissed. At the sound of the conversation, which just sounded like the Pokemon saying their names, Ava turned her head in the direction of the wild Pokemon.
It was pretty obvious to Ava that these two Pokemon did not like each other, and she was wary. "Hello there," she addressed the cat smoothly. How lucky that they had found a dark-type; Tephra's bug-type attacks would do well. "Tephra, string shot and leech life." The Larvesta had been on the verge of attacking already and did not hesitate to leap forward, inhaling deeply before spraying a thin thread of sticky silk in the Purrloin's direction. Following that, Tephra rushed toward the feline, attempting to latch onto her and drain some of her energy.
<Impudent insect!> the cat howled, and when Ava went to command the Larvesta to attack, she tacked on, <Craven, currish troglodyte!> The Pokémon hissed at trainer and Pokémon alike, thrashing her tail from side to side, quickly tumbling out of the way of the String Shot. The Leech Life hurt, but this was a feisty little thing. She snarled, hurling sand in the Larvesta's direction with a Sand-Attack.
<I ask a simple question, and this is how the invitation is returned?> she hissed, then lunged with unsheathed claws for a Fury-Swipes attack. She'd narrowly managed to avoid the String Shot, and shuddered a little as she lunged at the thought of getting all tangled up in that sticky silk. Disgusting.
(Rolled 1-5, Fury Swipes attacks 3 times.)

Tephra made a sound vaguely resembling a growl, as odd as that was for an insect. She managed to rather awkwardly roll sideways and out of the way of the sand, but just barely. <As if you were just going to let me be with a simple question,> the Larvesta replied. She had only been a bit suspicious of the feline at first, but now she was just plain angry. She turned around just in time to see the Purrloin's claws as they slashed at her face, and tumbled backwards.
"Ember!" Ava shouted. Perhaps her Pokemon had been a bit hasty in attacking out of nowhere, but at this point there was nothing the researcher could do about it. This time, Tephra's spiked horns began to glow before shooting a small burst of flame in the Purrloin's direction. As a follow-up, she launched another String Shot, despite not having been asked to do so.
TAGSZULF ? NOTES dodged sand-attack, hit by fury swipes, used ember and string shot. (leech life doesn't count as a healing move, does it? so I can use it again this battle?)
The Purrloin licked a paw after slashing at the Larvesta's face. Who did this Larvesta think she was? She hissed as the Larvesta's silk wrapped itself around her body. The cat Pokémon was, absolutely, not amused. Still, she turned her snout up at the Pokémon, even with her limbs bound to her body. She was mostly irritated that she could no longer swish her tail from side to side, but such was life. <Hmph, c'est la vie,> the cat muttered under her breath, letting out an unearthly screech as the Larvesta all but lit her on fire.
She shook her head about, snout twitching a bit at her singed whiskers. This would not do at all. <Are you quite finished and satisfied with your brutish actions?> she sniffed. <Are you quite satisfied?>
(It doesn't, so you're good.
what am I doing I shouldn't have dodged and used two moves orz orz orz orz orz x infinity excuse me as i take a penalty orz)
LVL12 scratch, growl, sand-attack, fury swipes + encore
Yes, in fact, Tephra was quite satisfied. Ava had to admit that she hadn't expected a quiet Pokemon like Tephra to have such a mean streak. But it was a good thing, she supposed--there was no time for petty chatter when the region was plagued by the scourge.
<You're not the boss of me,> the insect snapped. <Don't try to act so high and mighty or this is what happens.> She turned to her trainer momentarily. Ava held up a hand, signaling the Larvesta to stop. As unpredictable as Tephra was proving to be, she was not going to go against her trainer's orders. Ava studied to the Purrloin for a moment, observing the feline while she had this chance to get close and not be attacked.
Afterwards, the human stood up and walked backwards a bit. Tephra took that as a signal to attack once more with another Leech Life. Ava's main priority right now was training her team, and this was a perfect opportunity to do so.
TAGSZULF ? NOTES +1 entry, and Tephra used leech life. (ah that's okay, I derped did the same thing so I apologize for that as well!)
<Brute, brute!> the Purrloin shrieked as the Larvesta sank her teeth into the cat Pokémon's body. She squirmed about, trying to free herself from the sticky trap. She Scratched at the silky threads, tearing them to shreds. <I am no longer tolerating your actions,> she hissed, then lunged with an angry expression on her face. She Growled at the Larvesta, circling the Pokémon with feral eyes.
<Hmm, I suppose that you have proven your own strength to me though,> the Pokémon mused. Of course, such was only a ploy. The Purrloin was getting tired, but she had to save face if she was going to hold dominion over the Letum Warehouse.
Of course, she was only queen of the warehouse in her own head.
(orz no it's okay, please don't worry!
Also, you gain a Dex entry by sacrificing a turn during a battle, one Dex entry per new Pokémon that you meet.
"Studying a pokemon in combat only takes one turn, but the researcher's pokemon are limited to only one attack each that turn. Studying outside of combat requires at least one post of contemplation.")
LVL12 scratch, growl, sand-attack, fury swipes + encore
The battle was not over yet, it seemed. Tephra recoiled as the Purrloin's claws once again struck her. The Growl did not scare her, per se, but it did show that the feline Pokemon meant business.
The dark-type was speaking again. Ava watched, wondering what sort of conversation was occurring between the two Pokemon. <I'm not finished,> Tephra snapped. The Larvesta looked back toward her trainer once again, and Ava responded with "Ember." There was no need to bother with defensive or status moves right now; that would just take up time.
TAGSZULF ? NOTES hit by scratch and growl, used ember. (also I did only use one move that turn--leech life--so the dex entry counts, right?)
The Purrloin nimbly stepped out of the way of Tephra's Ember. <Pah,> she spat at the Larvesta. <Disgusting bug!> she snarled, tossing more clods of dirt in the Larvesta's direction with a Sand-Attack. To lose to this impudent Larvesta would mean immediate exile from the Letum Warehouses. Quite frankly, the warehouse was all that the wayward Purrloin had, and she would defend this territory to the end.
She lunged for the fiery bug Pokémon, claws unsheathed with a Scratch attack.
<Leave this place!>
(Yes, the Dex entry counts.)
LVL12 scratch, growl, sand-attack, fury swipes + encore
Tephra hissed as the sand was kicked into her face, and shook her head violently in an attempt to clear her eyes (seeing as she had very little in the way of hands with which to otherwise do so). Caught off-guard, the insect didn't even see her foe rushing forward, the sand in her eyes preventing her from defending herself momentarily as the Scratch hit. The Larvesta took a moment to compose herself, shaking her head once more before replying, <Not yet.>
At this point, Ava was pretty confident that her Pokemon would have been able to choose her own moves and fight just fine by herself, but she wanted to show some authority. "Try the Leech Life and String Shot combo again," she suggested. Tephra did as she was told, rushing forward and spraying silk at the same time, hoping for a similar effect as what the Purrloin had just inflicted on her--catching the foe by surprise and then attacking.
TAGSZULF ? NOTES hit by sand-attack, scratch. used string shot, leech life.
The Purrloin thinks herself to be quite clever as she nimbly leaps out of the way of the String Shot with a touch of grace. Unfortunately, that left the dark-type cat Pokémon wide open to the Larvesta's Leech Life. The Purrloin screeched angrily as the rest of her energy was sucked away by Tephra. She thrashed about, wriggling her body to get out of the Lavesta's grasp, before finally going limp.
And so, the Purrloin's pretentiousness had led to own demise.
(+1 level for Tephra. You may capture the Purrloin if you so wish to.)
LVL12 scratch, growl, sand-attack, fury swipes + encore FAINTED
Ava watched the wild Pokemon fall from a few feet away and immediately reached into her bag. "Nicely done, Tephra," she murmured, and the bug-type's whole body seemed to glow with pride. <That'll teach her.>
The researcher retrieved a poke ball from her bag. Tephra's eyes grew wide. <Wh--we're taking that thing with us?!> she cried, looking dumbfounded. Ava couldn't understand what her Pokemon was saying but she was pretty sure she got the gist of it. "We need as many teammates as we can get," she said simply, before throwing the poke ball.
