Eva is the second oldest of the current generation, with five younger siblings living with their mother and father, as well as a single great grandmother, above the shop. For the entirety of her childhood Eva was a bit of a sore thumb, sticking out with her unusual fascinations instead of playing with the other children; it turned sour in her teen years when she was badly bullied and often taken out of school. It never really bothered her, although her parents never really knew what to do with her and were constantly worrying about her future. Eva spent a great deal of her adolescence working in the shop or reading.
