This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

The Dratini slithered in a strange way, and Winnie kept getting distracted by it. She wiped her nose with the back of her hand, and sniffled a little. "Alright, Morrow," she weighed the pokemon's name on her tongue. She was just getting used to it, getting used to having some sort of companion. She wasn't comfortable enough with the Snover to let him mill about her, not just yet. Morrow seemed a good partner, though.
Though that put her in a bit contradiction though; let's go looking for more pokemon even though we're a bit frightened with what we already have. It was more like Winnie wanted to see what she might come across; something interesting, and exciting? Or maybe she was just here to level up Morrow a bit more, if she found something she didn't like. Winnie had a hard time feeling empathy for anything. These pokemon were pretty safe from the hades virus, anyway. It was more important that she have strong pokemon to defeat the virus, and cause just a little discomfort for the others?
Whatever.
She leaned down and picked up Morrow, feeling his scales that weren't quite scales wriggle in her hands, and the two continued to walk past the dusty boxes.

Atop one of the boxes stood a very proud looking bird. Her friends and family were much too afraid to approach the humans who entered the warehouse- but not her. She was a hero. She went by the title 'Herochic' in these parts. And she was proud of it.
"Chi-chic!" she shouted at the girl with her serpentine friend. Torchic flapped her tiny wings and spun on her toes. Her butt wiggles and taunted the human, making fun of her and daring her to climb to giant crate to chase her. Torchuc knew every nook and cranny of the area! If the human thought that she could win, she should think again. The hero always won against the evil humans!
Holding the Dratini had turned out to be kind of beneficial; when the Torchic appeared, taunting her and bouncing on the crates, she could just stand on her tip-toes to place Morrow on one that was about level with the fire-type.
This thing was absolutely adorable and Winnie had to appreciate and respect it's pomp and zest. It made her smile, and she felt comforted by the little thing's presence.
"Alright," she said, putting a hand on her hip and leaning to the side. "Morrow, use water pulse." Straight forward, a water attack against a fire-type. That had to work, right? Winnie wasn't too concerned. This felt like a lax environment, and the Torchic itself was too cute to seem like a threat.

The blast of water almost shot the Torchic right off of the crate. She was knocked from her feet, sliding to a halt just shy of the edge. A water snake. If Torchic had known what she was up against, she wouldn't have picked this fight! But there was no backing down. She had to end what she started, and she had to win.
Torchic, with her knees shaking, manage to push herself upright. But she only lifted her head, enough to fire off an EMBER. She thought she could keep her opponent at bay with an attack like this. Long enough for her body to glow and outline in a light red, starting to FOCUS ENERGY, so that her attack next turn should do a bit more critical damage.
Things seemed to be going well with the water pulse - it hit the little Torchic head on, toppling her over. Winnie felt a little bit of jubilation inside - it was a small and stupid kind of victory, but hopefully they could continue on this little path.
It was a short lived thing though - boom, in a bit of light, now Morrow was the one spinning and shaking his serpentine head. Winnie put a hand to her lips. There was nothing she could do, since the Dratini was over there and she was over here.
It's okay, it's okay. This really wasn't a big deal. There wasn't anything on the line. It just... stung a little, that's all. "No sweat," she said "Just throw some thunderwave, okay?" True, no sweat at all. "And, uh, follow it up with another water pulse!" Boy she was bad at this. Morrow obliged, and Winnie watched on, albeit a bit awkwardly.

Torchic had jumped to her feet, just in time to DODGE the next Water Pulse. She rolled to the side with a weak chirp, and was suddenly filled with a painful and tingly feeling. The Thunder Wave had hit and sent electricity coursing through her body. She shook her head weakly, trying to get back up and recover. But the paralysis was in place and she was finding it difficult to move. Torchic tried to lunge out and SCRATCH her opponent, but it might not work due to the paralysis.
under 50 and torchic is free from paralysis. above 50 and she is still paralyzed (and scratch will not succeed).
