This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Everything seemed to whizz by her at lightening speed, and it was difficult to pay attention and take in all of her surroundings when everything was so bright, so fast, and so new. Home in Cura Village was nothing like this, this was not the smell of fresh grass or the gentle sun that kissed her skin, here, she could hardly hear herself think.
But she was also filled with excitement. She was here, at the ranger union, ready to face her new life. A new challenge. A new goal. Amelie couldn't help but to anticipate what was going to happen. Taking a deep breath, she walked into the ranger union not really knowing what to expect.
"Hello?" She called out, wondering what to do. "I'm u-uh, Amelie Valentine, I'm from Cura Village, and I really really want to enlist as a ranger!" Her voice dropped at the end of the sentence, nerves biting her words hard.

"You do now?" she asked, leaning up from maps upon maps, little, black chess pieces building up over the area of the paper she had been staring at. This girl had such a kindly aura, like an egg really. Rolling about her tent. "We need all the help we can get, in theory." Sa'di would rather have more experienced people fighting the scourge, but this girl could do her part. "Let me introduce you to a few of our combatants."
With that, she frowned, brought a couple fingers to her lips, and pulled a long and lonesome whistle. Soon, a rag tag troupe of pokemon hurdled in. They wore soup pots on their heads, and held metal laddles for swords. A few jousted as they all tumbled before the girl.
"Hey! Hey! Attention! Stop that - this isn't the time!" These pokemon were all children. She let out a deep breath and shot a pleading look at Amelia.
Amelie's eyes widened, watching the ranger leader move with such elegance and poise she'd only dream of possessing. Waiting on her every word, she took a sigh of relief, previously scared of the mapped out delusions she'd been replaying in her head again and again on her way here. Before she could come up with words to express her feelings, her eyes caught on something interesting. An adorable group of pokemon wondering in with soup pots on their heads and laddles, laddles! At that sight, Amelie couldn't help but laugh. They were like a bunch of children, so cute and innocent! This was certainly how all pokemon should be. That thought managed to strengthen the resolve in her heart.
Kneeling down so that she was the same height as the pokemon, she carefully removed the pots from their heads, smiling at them all. At the ones that fell, she even inquired: "Are you okay?" And offered a hand as if teaching a human toddler how to walk.
For a brief moment, she forgot the presence of the ranger leader as she was busy making eye contact and smiling at all the adorable looking pokemon. At that realization, she jumped up in alarm. "So sorry, I was being really rude! I'm sorry! So... do I..." She wondered, hoping the ranger leader would fill in the gaps for her.
Her eyes then dropped to one of the pokemon who had a very pretty leaf coming out of its head. Amelie was sure she had met one of those before, but her poor sense for names kept her from calling it's name. Mother used to have one, she was sure of it!

Sa'di folded her arms like a disturbed eagle might when its chicks pecked beneath it. She wasn't suited for these young folk, freshly hatched and vaccinated by Professor Cypress. She gave them each a hard, scolding look, but the moment softened as she watched the girl bend down and smile at a Chikorita. She seemed fascinated by that particular devil most of all. Analyzing the lass's gestures, she assumed the had found her bias among the rabble.
"If you wish it as your partner, it is yours, young lady," she said when the Amelie realized herself and looked up with those crystal eyes.
"My partner?" She echoed, and then her mouth turned into a shape of a small 'o', before nodding. That's right. With acceptance out of the way she didn't even think this far, to choose her own partner pokemon on her soon to be long journey. Pokemon were like friends, Amelie thought, and friends had to be reliable, trustworthy and lovely to be around. Kneeling down once more, she gave all the young pokemon a good look, one of the pokemon came up to her, with expectant eyes. Amelie's own widened again, hand then reaching out to pet it gently.
"Can I go with this one, please?" She smiled at the Riolu.

Sa'di picked up one of the dark pawns and began to toss it meditatively in her hand. Her Lucario stepped forward, calm eyes, as she picked up the rascal and plopped it in the girl's arms. It was a big day for the little one.
<"I am sure my child is in good hands,"> she said with a warm sadness.
