This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

cypress laboratory. a place that fogged his memory all too much. he stared at the large building, his bright eyes narrowed to slits. he clicked his double pierced tongue against his teeth, making a hollow but haunting sound. he didn't want to think about this place. his father had worked here. maybe they would recognise him...he doubted it, however he did have his father's good looks. the charming personality his father had though...vincent lacked that in a big way. he stared down at a crumpled paper that he had gripped tightly in his long fingers. the top said 'get your starter today, protect against the scourge!' he had no idea what a scourge was, nor did he really care. but there had been people, assumed to be trainers, walking by his home and talking about it. and vincent was not allowed to let whatever it was ruin his home. he still had a lot to find out, and with whatchamacallit's running around, that would be impossible.
he stared at the list for quite some time. none of the pokemon really appealed to him. not that any pokemon really appealed to him. just thinking about them made the bile rise in his throat. but obviously he needed to protect against something, and a pokemon was the way to do it. he finally made his decision.
he crumpled the paper, messily shoving it in his messenger bag that was tossed haphazardly over one shoulder. he reached a hand forward, gripping the handle and pulling it open. the rush of clean air swept into his nostrils and he choked down the reaction to gag. it was the same scent his father always came home smelling like. he wanted to get in and out as soon as possibly. he walked inside, his boots clicking on the linoleum.
"i'm here for my...scyther." he said the pokemon's name awkwardly, attempting to pronounce it correctly. he hoped someone heard him. he just wanted to leave and go have some tea. and perhaps take a nap. this was certainly taking a toll on him and he was not enjoying it.
Luckily for Vincent, the Professor had heard his call. He'd been shuffling papers around his desk when he'd called for his Pokémon. However, he had not understood the man quite well because of the creature's name's mispronunciation. "Scyther, Scyther... Oh yes, Scyther..."
He stood from his desk and made his way towards the front foyer to greet Vincent. "Is is Vincent Bloom? Your name, I mean. I believe you had an appointment at around... now." The professor's green eyes flickered towards the clock mounted upon one of the white walls. "If so, you were sent by the Pokémon Association to receive a vaccinated Pokémon... Very good! Please, come in!" It appeared that the professor still retained his tendency to speak to himself.
Mr. Brown was had appeared behind Professor Cypress, but the Alakazam was dismissed with a nod of the head. He needed his assistants to continue to welcome new trainers into the lab. Lately, they had been receiving a large influx of trainers. That wasn't a necessarily bad thing. In fact, Cypress considered it a very good thing. With more trainers out on the road, it would hopefully mean that there would be more people to take care of the Scourge in the wild. And perhaps one day, the Scourge would disappear entirely. That would be the day. But that was a very big task and goal to look towards. For now, they'd have to take small steps, and giving Vincent his Pokémon would be the beginning of it.[/blockquote]
vincent stared at the professor. so this was cypress. didn't seem like anyone of importance. vincent narrowed his eyes at being corrected. what was taking this man so long to simply give him a pokemon. he obviously had other appointments. vincent looked back up at the clock. it was a lucky guess when to show up. he'd been walking around outside staring at that stupid list for the past hour and a half. good thing he didn't just rush right in, no one wants to be early right? vincent decided he was fashionably late. (even though he was apparently right on time.)
his green eyes followed the professor as he fussed, looking around his lab. vincent wanted to crack a joke about not being organised but the man merely stood there like a statue. occasionally clicking his tongue studs against his enamel. vincent noticed the alakazam. he had no idea what it was, but he wasn't about to go introducing himself. pokemon couldn't speak english right? (little did he know alakazam could speak telepathically, but that is neither here nor there.) did pokemon even understand english? he hoped his scyther didn't speak spanish or german. latin wouldn't be so bad, it was the route of all language. but if the pokemon spoke an entirely different language than him they'd be screwed. but enough of this. he was getting impatient.
"so where is it." he wasn't meaning to be rude. he had places to be, things to do. he didn't want to spend his entire day sitting around here jabbering with a man he did not want to be around. the lab coat was reminding him of his father and the bile began to rise in his throat again. his plan had been short. acquire pokemon, leave. but now there was so many steps involved between those that he was debating just leaving all together.
The professor blinked at Vincent's quick words. This man was quite the impatient one, which he knew would be a problem. Scyther could be a rather stubborn Pokémon. But he supposed that Vincent would discover this on his own sooner or later. The corners of his mouth tipped downwards into a frown. "Yes, yes, right this way," Professor Cypress said, gesturing into the lab. "You came just in time for a Scyther. We have already given away one of them and two have been left behind. You'll find them right... oh, there they are." As they stepped into the office, he a twin pair of shadows slipped out of the darkness and into the light filtering through the open window.
Now, Mr. Brown had reappeared holding a pair of Pokéballs. "Thank you, Mr. Brown," the Professor said gratefully and the Alakazam gave him a nod. Professor Cypress gave a slight laugh at whatever the Pokémon had said. It would remain a mystery to Vincent. For a moment, it had seemed that Professor Cypress had forgotten about the new trainer, but he took the Pokéballs and gestured in the direction of the Scythers.
"This is the first of the Scythers. He's a little difficult to control, but with a firm hand, he should become an obedient and loyal fighter,"
Professor Cypress explained. As if to confirm this claim, the Scyther to the left brandished his scythes and his dark eyes flashed at Vincent. It was as if he were challenging the man to tame him, which was a challenge that very few new trainers had decided to take up. "He's been at the lab for some time now and tends to chase off trainers..." he mumbled.
"And this here is the second of the Scyther. She's a little calmer than the other Scyther, but just as feisty. But she was recently vaccinated, so we still haven't gotten a sense of her personality. She's a little volatile, but mild-mannered most of the time. ... most of the time." The professor stroked his chin thoughtfully before realization dawned upon him.
"Oh, of course, before you can receive your first Pokémon, you'll have to sign off the forms. We've already received the ones you sent into the Pokémon Association, but we need you to confirm them. Now, I just had them with me..." The professor wandered over to his desk, muttering to himself as he rifled through his papers. He finally pulled one out that was attached to a clipboard. "Here it is! Right here, Mr. Bloom. Please sign on the dotted line," he said, handing Vincent the clipboard and pen.
vincent was growing bored. he raised a long fingered hand to sloppily cover his mouth as he yawned, a deep rumbling noise reminiscent of a snorlax escaping his lips. the man was just yammering on and on. vincent nodded, pretending to be listening. eventually the professor began walking and vincent followed. the heels of his black boots clicking on the tile. vincent's eyes flicked around the lab curiously. there was nothing that hinted at all about his father. he cursed under his breath and stopped abruptly, narrowly avoiding running into the professor. he listened to a few more words before looking at the pair of scythers.
he raised himself to his full height at six foot six and looked down at the creatures. "i thought they'd be bigger."
he said, a gentle smirk tugging at the corners of his lips. actually the green pokemon weren't that small, but anything was miniscule to vincent. his green eyes flicked between the pair of them. the male's own flashing eyes intrigued vincent. perhaps this fellow was just as crazy as he was. he could only hope.
vincent's attention was returned to the professor. the man was completely oblivious to the alakazam saying something telepathically to the lab coat wearing man. he hastily took the paperwork and signed messily on the dotted line. vincent bloom. his handwriting left a lot to be desired as he hadn't done much writing over the years, but still legible. it was only a few levels over chicken scratch.
"the boy. i'll take the male." he said slowly. staring the creature down, his eyes flashing. he hoped scyther liked tea. though he could see how drinking it would be difficult with no hands. like edward scissorhands. edward scythehands. eddie the scyther. vincent laughed inwardly at his wit.[/div]
Professor Cypress took the clipboard back with a quick nod. "Well then, I suppose that's taken care of," he said with a slight smile. He rubbed at the left Pokéball with his white lab coat sleeve until the top of it shone. "Here's his Pokéball. The Scyther hasn't been nicknamed quite yet, so it's entirely up to you."
He cleared his throat a bit and gestured towards the Scyther. The Pokémon had a grin on its face as it rubbed its scythe hands together. Somehow, Professor Cypress got the feeling that Vincent would get along splendidly with the Scyther. If anything, they both had... similar eyes.
The Professor pressed the Pokéball into Vincent's hand before returning the female Scyther to her Pokéball. "Here you are! Just return your Pokémon to his Pokéball and then you'll be all set to go." He blinked for a moment as he realized he had forgotten something. What had it been? He frowned again with a thoughtful expression on before making an, "Aha! That's what I'd forgotten!" He rushed back to his desk to pick up a kit of starter items. "Here, you'll need these items too. Keep them in a bag somewhere with your Scyther's Pokéball. They're a gift from the Pokémon Association."
"Feel free to come back and visit whenever. Good luck with your journey!" But somehow, Cypress got the feeling that Vincent would not be returning to see him again.
Vincent received a LV05 ♂ Scyther! quick attack | vacuum wave | leer | +1 egg move
vincent watched as the female scyther disappeared into the pokeball. he returned his gaze to his new scyther. edward scythehands. he wasn't sure exactly what to do now. the clicking of his tongue piercings against his enamel started up again. if he kept that up he'd have no enamel left on his teeth. they were starting to wear away. it hit a particularly weak spot and the long haired man furrowed his brows, blinding taking the pokeball from the professor. he closed his eyes as he waited for the painful sensation to fade. he opened his eyes, one at a time and stared at the red and white sphere in his hand. his pokeball. he looked at the scyther. his pokemon. he raised to ball and clicked the centre button watching as the pokemon disappeared.
he stowed the ball in one of his pockets, where the crumpled up starter list was also placed. he listened to a few more words and watched as cypress walked away for a moment. he took the items, shoving them haphazardly into his bag. he just wanted to get out of there. he turned, giving the professor a short wave before practically running from the laborator.
