This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

It was too soon to even bother with the gym in Proserpina. In their current state, my pokemon would not stand a chance. That wasn't going to stop us from a little development however. The word around was that there was an abandoned warehouse filled with wild pokemon. It was the perfect place to start the team training.
Ventrix, the little Zorua, remained at my side as we walked through the abandoned building. It was shadowy and quite enigmatic, much like myself in ways. The place was perfect for wild pokemon to hide away and wait for unexpected trainers to suddenly pounce on. Well, I was ready to be pounced on. The question remained; where were the wild pokemon at?
the warehouse was empty and devoid of humans when you entered, save for the clatter and noises of wild pokémon running about in the area. nothing stood out immediately; there were a lot of crates and dust. it wasn't until you heard a loud sound to your right that preceded the falling of a stack of crates that your attention was drawn to the scraggy standing in its wake.
a grin spread across its face, the gecko snickered as it jerked its head upwards towards you. a challenge, its expression said.
The sudden thud of wooden crates drew my attention to the right. Stood beneath the scatter of boxes was a small gecko-esque critter. It looked rather confident and ready for a battle. My eyes darted to the Zorua at my side. "Let's go Ventrix," I said firmly to my companion.
He knew what he had to do. A moment later, my Zorua leapt closer to the yellow creature. It was time for the battle to begin. "It looks tough... make sure you keep an eye on it at all times. Let's see how it matches up against you in the shadows. Use faint attack so we can get right in there!" The Zorua followed my instruction. He made his way quickly over to the Scraggy, acting rather weak and as if he posed to be no threat. Then of course once he was in distance, the Zorua would strike. That was the beauty of faint attack; confuse your opponent into thinking you meant no harm... and then of course the claws would appear.
the faint attack struck the scraggy. it tumbled to the ground, before bouncing back with a low kick of its own. it never was going to lose to the likes of you, a trainer with a pokémon.
Suddenly I realised that I had made a mistake. I had failed to consider the fact that perhaps my little companion was susceptible to taking enhanced damage from some techniques more so than others. That being said, when I saw the movement of the Scraggy's leg into the direction of Ventrix my heart sank a little. It was too late to call out for him to dodge. "Ventrix look out!" I called out in an attempt to make my pokemon aware. It proved to be of little worth however.
The kick came rather swift into the chest area of Ventrix. I rushed over to the Zorua upon hearing its cry. It seemed the low kick really had done some damage to the little pokemon. We had to play smarter if we wanted to win this battle. I quickly leant down to the small pokemon as it attempted to shrug off the damage it had just taken. "Use fake tears to make it think that you're really hurt. Then, when it comes close to finish you off... jump out at it and use scratch directly on his face"
The plan was set. Now the pieces just had to fall together.
the scraggy quickly noticed that you were up to something, but it did not stop the lizard from watching ventrix cry with interest. it tilted its head at the display of fake tears, before it dodged the incoming scratch.
that was it! knowing full well that you were definitely up to no good, the scraggy leapt into the air, before attempting to strike your zorua's skull with a well-aimed thunderpunch!
Finally, the chance that we had been waiting for. I knew we could capitalise on Ventrix's agility if we were able to draw the Scraggy into close quarters. After the wild pokemon made its way into the air, it definitely became apparent that we had to act rather quickly.
"Ventrix. Now that its up in the air, it can't change its direction before it lands. Stay in your position until the final second, then quickly leap out of its way to a different angle and let loose with fury swipes," I quickly instructed as I watched the wild pokemon's fist flare up with electricity. It looked to be a very interesting, yet frightening, technique. I hoped Ventrix would succeed in dodging it and perhaps land a critical strike on the critter.
the scraggy landed on the ground, electricity crackling from its knuckles as it made contact with thin air. the ground was slightly cracked from the impact. it glanced up at your zorua. the fox immediately started scratching the scraggy across its face, and the gecko whined after receiving the full brunt of the attack. seizing its chance, it used its low kick to try to interrupt your pokémon's onslaught.
A cheer broke from my voice as I witnessed Ventrix shred away at the face of the Scraggy. "Good job," I called out as I watched my companion continue to slice. We had to keep focused though, the Scraggy would surely make Ventrix pay for what he had done.
As Ventrix was now right amongst it, it didn't seem that he could go anywhere. The only hope for him now was to attack the Scraggy as it attacked him. Otherwise, there would be no chance of victory here. "Ventrix, use Dark Pulse!" I cried out to my little pokemon as I slowly watched the rise of the Scraggy's foot. It looked as if it was coming in for another low kick. That move would decimate poor Ventrix.
the low kick had definitely found its way against fleshy skin. the scraggy smirked, but its amusement was short-lived as a blast of dark energy found its way into its face. being dark- and fighting-typed, the scraggy was able to resist significant damage to itself.
the lizard pokémon made a quick escape to the top of the crates as it stared down at your pokémon, wounded.
"Bastard," I cursed out to the Scraggy as it hopped away. I slowly paced over to the wounded Zorua on the ground. My hand flicked into my back pocket, withdrawing a single potion that had been given to me by Professor Cypress. "Here... Ventrix. Use this," I muttered whilst applying the potion to his wounds.
The little Zorua soon rose to his feet. The battle was not over yet. I could see the determination within his eyes; he wanted to defeat this wild Scraggy. "Good," I said to him whilst understanding what the Zorua's motives were, "this isn't over yet."
Now that Ventrix was back in action, we had a Scraggy to defeat.
There wasn't a moment to spare. We were back in the game. "Ventrix, use Leer to intimidate the Scraggy and then when he's caught off-guard, quickly shoot him with a Dark Pulse!" The instructions were clear and Ventrix knew what he had to do.
If the Scraggy was indeed caught off-guard, then the substantial strike of the Dark Pulse would surely knock him off the top of the crates. Such a fall would cause plenty of damage to the wild critter; something that we could definitely capitalise on. I watched intently as Ventrix made his move. We just had to hope now that the plan was a success.
the scraggy leapt from one stack of crates to another to avoid the dark pulse, but as ventrix leered at it, it paused in its tracks to glare back at your pokémon. it then turned its back to your zorua, before kicking up a spray of dust (and sand) off the top of the untouched crates to deliver a sand-attack.
Blast. The Dark Pulse had missed. It was time to yet again capitalise on the situation. I quickly called out to the little Zorua. "Ventrix, now! Dodge the sand and then hit him with Scratch!"
As Ventrix moved off upon hearing his instructions, I started to wonder how much more this Scraggy could take. It had been quite relentless throughout the battle. The 'never give up' attitude forced me to admire the little critter somewhat. I could see the same in Ventrix as well.
