This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

"Yes, we will need at least seven more Bidoof for this to work," the Hespera City mayor said, speaking urgently into her cellular device. She nodded and shook her head at different intervals, making it quite difficult to tell what the conversation actually was about. "Yes... yes, that should work. What? No, no, you should throw in some celery with it too. I think that would work perfectly fine."
The woman pressed two fingers against her temple. A pounding migraine was beginning to form there.
The psychic-type gym leader clicked the touch-screen of her phone. As the screen dimmed, she heard a voice calling her name, ringing through the building. "Hello? Hello, yes, here I am," she called back as a purple-haired trainer entered the premises. "Oh, a battle? Yes, I'm always ready for a battle," the gym leader said, managing a smile. "The rules are quite simple, you see. It shall be four Pokémon, double battles." She reaches for her belt, releasing a Starmie and a Gardevoir.
Just like the last challenger, it appears that Delilah is a hit-hard-hit-fast battler. The Hydreigon would be a little bit of trouble to deal with. Still, Veronica is a gym leader, and she does not intend on letting Delilah win this battle (if she does) easily at all. So the Starmie shudders at the curse, stuck in place, but Lovecraft is there to back the star-shaped Pokémon up. Lovecraft cringes at the Shadow Ball, but her eyes glow white as she attempts to put the hulking dragon to sleep.

Veronica blinks. That was a rather quick gym battle. It seems to be happening to her quite frequently, and part of her suspects it's because trainers have gotten smarter and started using more dark-types. Most of her Pokémon's attacks are rendered helpless against them. She sighed, rubbing a temple with two fingers. The migraine was beginning to ebb away, but that wasn't enough to cheer her up. Still, the woman was glad that there were powerful trainers like Delilah in the field to keep the Scourge at bay.
An assistant rushed forward, handing Veronica a myriad of items. "These are for you," the gym leader said, now offering a Clear Badge, a Calm Mind TM, Twisted Spoon, and $4000 in cold hard cash.
