This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Malik had kicked back in his seat, the wooden chair balanced on the back two legs and his own legs crossed out in front of him. There was a drink in his hand, the alcohol swishing in his glass as he brought it to his lips. The pub was only a pit stop before Malik would continue on toward Ceres. There was little time to waste, but the walk from Juno had been a long one, and his feet could use a rest.
Asleep atop Malik's hair was his Swinub. The boy's head cloth was resting on the table, leaving his face and hair unveiled. The small Pokemon would have passed as a toupee, if her fur had been longer and she had been a little bigger. Malik didn't seem phased or to even notice that the creature was on his head. She spent most of her hours seated on his shoulders, he'd grown use to it.
The researcher's gaze drifted around the pub, darting from each customer. He listened to the conversations, observed the shady business, and kept a closer eye on every Pokemon who followed a trainer in through that door. Malik had yet to see anything he called impressive.
Drake arrived in the bar, and though he was much to young to actually be in there he strolled by everyone else giving off his usual frigid aura. Though they should have tried to stop him they didn't probably because of the huge steel bird that was walking behind him. Skar was walking behind him casting intimidating steel glares to everyone around as if to say "Touch the boy, and you will die". The sound of those steel talons clicking on the wooden floor brought him some measure of comfort as he continued to his way towards the barkeep. A slightly balding man was polishing the glasses behind the counter, and before he could tell him to get out, Drake simply sat down, and began asking his questions.
"I am looking for the Scourge pokemon. You know they generally are zombified, and enjoy eating people. Tell me where I can find them." he stated flatly as he looked at the man with his piercing blue eyes.
"Closest I heard that they were, was in Nerio, so you got a journey ahead of ya." the barkeep stated.
"Thanks." he replied in that chilling voice, and turned to walk away.
"Son what you doin looking fer them monsters."
"Revenge..." the word trailed off in his voice as he turned to walk out the door.
Drake personally didn't care to socialize with anyone else, because they would all try to stop him eventually, and he wouldn't have any of it. The spiky haired blond walked outside in the sunshine, and surveyed his belt. The two other pokeball's that he held were located there with his two pokemon Rubble, and Crescent. Of course he was going to have to do some serious training before he went to Nerio, he would do his best, and become as strong as he could in order to destroy those creatures. That was his only goal.
Now a Skarmory could easily perk Malik's curiosity. Steel types were one of the researcher's specialty. Any Pokemon that could survive a sandstorm with a tough exterior was high on the list of Malik's favorites.
Downing the last of his drink, he left the glass on the table, snatching up the clothing articles left on the table and heading out from the pub. Malik was bad with ages, and wouldn't have realized that the other male was too young to be in the building in the first place. After only one measly drink, Malik could confess to being sober when he walked up behind the boy who'd just left, observing him closely. But his gaze was soon drawn to the bird.
Without even asking for permission, Malik had pulled scanning device from his pocket- his Pokedex- and stood a few steps back to get a good view of the bird. He gave an impressed whistle as he shook his head, mumbling more to himself than anyone, "Claws that could maim and teeth that could kill."
Drake was looking out around the city trying to figure out where he should go next to get more information on the Scourge. Before he got a chance though he could hear the footsteps behind him, and then someone was behind him, and Skar. Whipping around he only heard the end of the mans sentence something about killing. Tilting his head to the side he stared at the man with his icy blue eyes. If this guy was threatening him he was going to be in for a rude awakening. Skar flashed his wings into the sunlight causing the glare of the sun to flash brilliantly off of his steel feathers.
"You are going to kill me?" he stated coldly to the other guy.
Skar stood defensively by it's trainer, deadly golden eyes staring at the newcomer who has just threatened him, and his trainer. They weren't going to stand for such a thing.
"I suggest you either explain yourself, or move along before Skar get's angry, and decides to shred you into ribbons." he spoke flatly with no emotion.
The Pokedex listed information about the Skarmory's hollow wings, and the 180 miles that it could fly per hour. It also mentioned that the fallen feathers were used for swords. Not a pair of wing- or a bird- that he wanted to get on the bad side of. Malik lowered his Pokedex, powering it back off and slipping it under his cloak where it would be safe. If this human didn't recognize a Pokedex when he saw one, then he must not have been a researcher. Maybe a trainer then. Or a Ranger. Malik only saw one Pokemon.
"Kill you?" Malik scoffed, his spine straightening and a hand resting on his hip. "Killing time, perchance. But killing you would be unwise." The researcher eyed the metallic beast once more. Having only a Swinub crawling down the back of his tunic, Malik did not find it smart to attack a man with such a beast.
Malik's knuckles gently rapped against his hip, where he'd tucked his Pokedex away. "Your Skarmory. The real deal is more fascinating than the pictures in books. My device would not allow me to scan the images in my books. That would make my job too effortless."
The guy was blathering on about some pictures, and then he noticed the strange device that was in his pocket. This guy was a researcher then, and that would mean that he would know something about the scourge. Of course this all panned out way better than he had expected, and slight gleam of happiness appeared in his eyes. If he could pick the brain of this man for a few minutes about the scourge then he would be able to handle the pokemon more effectively. Heck if this guy proved useful he would let him study Skar all he wanted.
"I could see that as being to easy. Just be careful as Skar doesn't like it when people sneak up on us. The last guy wasn't so fortunate..." he allowed his voice to trail off before resuming the conversation. "So you are a researcher I take it? Can you tell me about the Scourge Pokemon?" he sat up straight, and crossed his arms his full attention on the man.
Drake only knew what the newspaper articles, and various reports said on the Scourge he needed someone who had dealt with them first hand, and this researcher was his best bet, at getting some valuable information.
Malik was ashamed to say that he had not met a Scourge in person since arriving in Kohaku. He wasn't native to this land and was on a boat toward this region when the Scourge incident blossomed. But he was a researcher and he had done his reading before he journeyed to Juno to sign himself up for the Eos program. He knew only what everyone else would know if they asked the right people and read the right articles.
"Is that all that anyone cares to hear about days? Whatever happened to talking about the weather to break the ice?" Malik let out an exasperated sigh, weight shifting onto one leg as he waved a hand and searched for an answer.
"They are a disease. Hellions brought down upon this region for the mistakes of uneducated researchers from the incident at Pax Lake. They are our impending doom," the researcher spoke dramatically, a darkness crossing over his expression. "And, to be honest, you would be smart to hurry your ass along with the other trainers and fight them yourself. Do you think I would be continuing to wallow on this side of the map if I knew thing or two about the scourge?"
The guy really didn’t tell him anything that he didn’t already know, and he gave a sigh of disappointment. This researcher he was hoping would be able to tell him something new about them that he would be able to use in that fight against them. It irritated him slightly, but he just shrugged it off, and he was about to leave when the guy told him that he needed to go hurry, and get to the others to help fend off the all the Scourge that was basically destroying the region, and he wanted to have his metal friend rip him to pieces, but he resisted the urge to do so, and instead looked the guy square in the eyes.
”I would be joining them right now, but I am not strong enough at this moment, so I have been working on gathering information on them, and training my own pokemon to get stronger. So I came here to challenge the Gym, and get stronger, and get a badge while I was at it.” he spoke to the guy in a cold tone.
