This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Helda had retaliated against Lulu's decision to leave by taking more of his belongings. Of course, it didn't matter much to the man at the moment because he wasn't sure what function a Water Stone would have for him out in Juno City. What he needed, now, was a stylus and a partner Pokémon. This was why he'd arrived at the Ranger Union in the first place. The man had never trained his own Pokémon, so he'd been a little taken aback when his Eos acceptance letter arrived in their mail (bless the poor mailman who'd picked his way through the dark caves to deliver the mail).
Still, he couldn't complain. Lulu was no masked crusader with a banner to fly against the Scourge, but he realized that he did desire to keep the flesh-eating Pokémon at bay. If there was a way to reverse Hades virus effects, that would be swell too, but Lulu figured he'd leave that to the researchers.
It was a Ranger's job to show Kohaku that the fundamentals of human-Pokémon bonding were not dead.
So the man entered Sa'di's Ranger Union, knocking twice on the door. Only then did he decide to take the initiative and found that the door was left unlocked. He wedged it open with a foot, peered inside, before adding, "Hello? I, er, hope I'm not interrupting anything. Sorry in advance if I am."

Sa'di and her Lucario were in the midst of a heated discussion. Both had their arms crossed as they debated the strategy. They needed Bacchus. More importantly, they needed pal park. Sa'di wanted to take it immediately. Her balled up hand ferociously illustrated her points as she leaned forward for a moment. The Lucario calmly shook its head, speaking privately in the woman's mind.
The newcomer was several steps into the room when she realized she had company. "Don't underestimate--" she halted, her attention flashing to the man who stood before her room. He seemed urgent. "Are you messenger? Hurry up, hand it over. I've been waiting for the news, and you're rather late."
Bacchus? Did they say Bacchus? Quite frankly, Lulu had never been to the little town right outside of Nerio City. In fact, the man hadn't done much traveling in the past. His navigational skills were superb and he had little trouble with picking his way through the darkness, but he'd never really been outside of Di Manes. So Lulu raised a hand and said, "I'm sorry, I'm not the messenger on the marathon," he replied, "... though it looks like you're very busy. I came here after receiving my Eos Ranger acceptance notice."
He paused thoughtfully to rub the back of his neck before continuing. "Sounds like your messenger lost his way." He hoped that Sa'di and her Lucario didn't mind that he'd eavesdropped a bit. "I'd like to volunteer to head to Bacchus Town and check the status of the area if you'd like." It wasn't as if Lulu had any other plans, and he was headed towards Bacchus anyways.

With a quick, aggrevated breath, she realized he was no messenger. Yet another recruit, well so be it. She was about to dismiss him, send him away to return at a later time, when he diplomatically set his foot in the door her thoughts.
It was true - she could use more eyes and hands in Bacchus. She leveled the fellow a precocious Amazon stare, before flinching with a sideglance at her Lucario. It's only logical came the fighting fox's spock-like voice in her mind.
"All right, consider it your first mission. You will begin the effort to free pal park, cub. I'm putting great faith in you with this endeavor, so take it with your life. The Park is one of the most strategically important locations in this forsaken region, and we need it. Now you'll want assistance." Her eyes switched around the dusky room. Sa'di lifted her hands and clapped twice, and from rumpled piles of maps, armor, and various crates that might hold medical supplies, pokemon peeped out. "Attention!"
They scurried out all called to present themselves before the strange man. Each looked up at him with their young, beady eyes, wondering what he was made of.
"Now, please, choose one to accompany you. Make it fast."
Lulu's eyes swept over the display of ten Pokémon. Each of them stood tall and rigid, save for the single Abra that was taking a little snooze. The Purrloin and Bonsly at its sides elbowed the Pokémon together. The creature snorted, then also stood tall and proud. After all, each of these partner Pokémon had been trained specially by Sa'di for future Eos rangers.
"The Abra, ma'am," the man responded, nodding in the psychic Pokémon's direction. All the other Pokémon had prowess, like the Vulpix and Chimchar, but the Abra had quickly endeared itself to the ranger.

"So be it it."
Sadi nodded to the diligent platoon, and they all broke away but for the abra, which stepped forward. "You will obey this one, and accompany him on his mission. Good luck now. I'm depending on you both." Her words were hard and regimental, with no room for sympathy. "May speed be with you!"
