The old man began drinking however. He scolded his son into being a perfect student. McKinley left Fallarbor to showcase his research on Spinda at several esteemed universities. He never returned. He tutored, wrote speeches, and did landscaping – all to support his calling. The young man married in his early twenties but divorced shortly after. Her name was Lisa. She was an adulterer. A budding relationship began with his penpal from Kohaku. She often visited Johto, where he now lived, to discuss research over coffee or in bed. He believed he loved her. She was one of the first casualties of the scourge. McKinley drowned his sorrows in liquor and prostitution. HE even burned all of his copybooks. Something convinced him to make the trip to Kohaku. Guided only by a broken heart, he forced himself into thinking that he was meant to research the scourge.
