You're not a person when you step onto that battlefield. He knows that he will always be himself on the inside, but to them, he's just another form of entertainment. Their cheers sound raw to his ears, because he can't tell if they're cheering him on or mindlessly shouting for the tournament to begin, and his ego's a little disappointed by that, but he brushes it off. Tries to drown out their noises, because it gives him a pounding headache and makes him scowl.
It's unconscious, but he stands up straighter, adjusting the collar on his shirt and flicking the sphere in his hand upwards, into the sky. It catches one of the sun's rays and bounces, gleaming, onto the ground as the red light bathes the battlefield and he smirks, even knowing that display hardly matters here, then nods twice, one directed at the opponent who's yet to come into full view. There's a clatter, a ruffle of wings, some pointed projectiles and a screech, and he knows then that it's finally begun.

alia is really excited about the festival in proserpina, and she can't really imagine how other people could feel otherwise. she dashes towards the spot on the field that is painted bright red for the trainer, and sends out her loyal samurott.
hypatia catches a faceful of the swift, which only serves to fuel her anger as she unleashes her revenge, doubling her power. even if the skarmory dodges this one, the focus energy ensures that the next hit will hurt like a bitch.

Dangerous - she exudes it, he can see it. Skarmory can feel it, too, he can tell by the way the bird trills in the air, silent, swooping in circles as he narrows his eyes as the attack scrapes past, leaving it untouched. It's said that pain helps you grow strong, but there's some pain that no one is willing to endure.
Skarmory's wary now, its features blank, claws flexing in and out. And with one sweep of its wings, prickly needles are scattered all over the battlefield. It then waits, hovering there, silent, distrusting.

Skarmory sometimes doesn't like it when he tells it what to do - its one of the reasons that he keeps silent, rocking on his heels and catching his lower lip between his teeth, worried. He's worried and irritated - more irritated than worried, actually, but beside the point. Worried about how Skarmory will do against this pokemon as the bird kicks up wind and launches it in a gale, and irritated because he can't focus on the battle fully before he knows where he's seen her before.
He swears he knows her from somewhere. The assumption that he just can't remember does nothing to help his mood.
