This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Deryn Altar was not here to liberate a caged Fearow, or be part of a reference to a book. And she was certainly not here to play games, even though the fact she was fishing painted a different picture.
Or it would have if she could bring herself to relax.
“I’ve got something!” She suddenly announced when the line tugged. As she started to reel in whatever was on the other end, she looked back behind her. “Hey. Hey! Front and centre! You’re battling this one.” Her Nidoran was far from enthusiastic and couldn’t fathom how she was supposed to fight something from the ocean anyway. Was she supposed to jump in the water and fight it there? That was crazy.
But it didn’t quite turn out that way. As Deryn finished reeling in the wild Pokemon, she swung the rod behind her, flinging whatever she had caught onto the docks. It landed a few feet away. Where was the Nidoran's excuses now?
The fish flew through the air, like she never imagined that she could before. She flapped her winds happily, thinking it would help her stay aloft, but she was slamming face first into the dock and sliding wetly for another few meters. Though the Chinchou didn't have wings, she wasn't like the other fish in the sea. She rolled over onto a pair of two feet and rubbed furiously at her aching face. Maybe next time, she'd fly unlike any other of her kind had.
"Chin-chin?" her head lifted, eyeing up the land mammals in front of her. They didn't have wings either. Pathetic creatures they were. She stuck her nose up to them, the bulbs dangling from her head and flashing with the electricity that coursed inside of them. Not even worth her time. Only the flying types could equal to and best her.
… was that supposed to be a fish? It didn’t quite look fishy enough.
Oh well, the little things didn’t matter. Deryn only considered the Pokemon cute for a brief moment and when it stuck it’s nose up at her and her Nidoran, Deryn pulled a face. “Oh please, at least we don’t have balls dangling from our heads.”
What? They did look ball-ish.
There was a pause, then, “Earth to Nidoran, are you going to attack it?” The Nidoran’s only response was to stare expectantly at her trainer. Deryn rolled her eyes. “Fine, use Tail Whip, or something. And Double Kick.”
Once she had her orders, the Nidoran gave a small nod and faced the Chinchou. Time to attack.
The attack hit the Nidoran just as she had steadied herself, and Deryn would have rolled her eyes if she wasn’t considering what to order next. She wasn’t going to expect her Nidoran to take charge on her own.
It wasn’t a long consideration. It was either that or Scratch. Deryn wanted the annoying fish-thing gone.

The Nidoran finally takes a page from its opponent’s book and decides to try this dodging thing. Deryn wishes she had done this last turn when a nasty electric attack had been fired at it. Deryn shrugs, not really sure what to do with a confused Pokemon. “Try the Double Kick again..?” she suggests, not even sure if her Pokemon can hear her.
Oh wow, that actually worked. Finally. But the moment of happiness is ruined when the Chinchou gets up again. Dammit, why can’t the fish thing just stay down? “Use Poison Tail.”
