This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

She couldn't back out now, there was too much riding on this. This gym is probably what would make or break her as a trainer. She needed to get passed this challenge. This gym leader was the only thing standing between her and that badge. She knew what Pokemon she was going to use. Perhaps she was overpowered, or underpowered she didn't really know. She was an Eos trainer, she couldn't back down from the fight. She would dishonor herself if she didn't go through with this.
Hell, Jayden was probably much farther ahead than she was. She had to catch up, and this was the first step. Heal walked into the gym, hoping that her anxiety wasn't noticeable. "Hello? Is the gym leader in?"
"oh, hey!" jasper's voice was bright and cheery as he emerged from the darkness of the library. the lights flipped on as soon as he appeared before heal; in reality, it was just his assistants well-trained and ready for any challengers to step into the gym. ludi ceriales hadn't got into the way of gym challenges, it seemed. jasper was happy to note that.
Heal was confident. She could do this, she could definitely do this. She ran a hand through her hair - as if that was a simple sign for her to calm down.
When she saw the gym leader her whole attitude changed. She became happy because the gym leader was so cheerful that it actually rubbed off on her. "Hey Jasper, I'm Helvetica."
"helvetica? that's a name i've never heard, but i do think it's a nice name!" jasper said, grinning. he flashed her a thumbs-up, and gave her an exuberant nod. a new challenger was always a great thing to have. it meant more people to fight the scourge and more hope for kohaku.
or so he hoped, anyway. jasper noticed that not many of them had been seen around in proserpina after they left; he wished them the best of luck in their endeavors, though.
"okay, well, challenge accepted!" said the gym leader, retrieving a pokéball which he promptly launched into the air. from it, his archen emerged. "this is agate, my archen. he's a little on the active side, but he should be able to give you a good fight!"
