This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

GRAND OPENING !
Welcome to KOHAKU REGION's grand opening! If you're interested in joining, come check out our grand opening giveaway!
juno is extraordinarily pretty. even a man like vasily can appreciate that, and he thinks that this was what his brother was talking about when he wanted a canvas free from pain. he would have been as gentle with the flowers as he would be with the oddish that hid in the bushes.
yurii would have been a more befitting of a traditional ranger than he, vasily thinks.
but traditional rangers are not what kohaku needs. kohaku needs her vengeance driven sons who are just as eager for the blood as the scourge are. so be it.
was there any limit to how much he is willing to remake himself for his cause? vasily walks through the door all the confidence that he can muster without appearing presumptuous. it's a union building, and not a private residence, after all.
"greetings, miss sa'di" he folds his hands together with a practiced smile. "my name is vasily antipov, and it would please me if we could discuss business as scheduled"
she glances up at him with a brief nod -- "welcome, antipov," -- before returning to the letters on her desk, neatly shuffling and rearranging them. she has business to attend to, after all. (he's not the only one who would be pleased with business as usual.)
the woman rises from her desk, moving to open a door to the side. a row of pokemon obediently file out, a few of them blinking and staring at the newly-admitted ranger. "these ones have been waiting for your arrival."
not the one for small talk. just like how people described sa'di to be. as often as vasily finds himself playing the role of the gentleman, he can honestly say that he prefers it like this. no charades, just clean business.
he looks over to the pokemon - he's been in school for long enough to recognize their faces, even if some of their names escape him. what really grabs his attention aren't the sharp fangs of the electrike or great bulk of the lickitung. what grabs his atttention is the shelder in the corner, its shell closed off to the outside world.
maybe it was a coward. maybe it was asleep. vasily wouldn't know. curiosity gets the better of him and vasily approaches the shellder.
"rise and shine, princess"
no response.
the minccino beside it gives the shell a little poke.
no response.
aggravated, the minccino gives the shell a great slap with her tail. with no warning, the shell opens and latches onto the furry tail.
vasily grins wolfishly. "yes, you're definately coming with me"
sa'di doesn't bother to hide her chuckle. his preferred choice of partner says more about the man than his words do, and the woman gathers his belongings. she has the shellder relinquish its grip on the minccino with a firm tap on its shell.
then the woman turns her scarlet gaze on vasily.
"he is certainly a character," she comments. "but, tell me -- why a ranger?" why not be one of the many trainers running amok through the region? sa'di has heard all of the excuses, and she isn't quite sure if the shellder would be willing to accept the man. (the relationship between a ranger and their partner worked both ways, after all.)
quite frankly, vasily was more than a little sure that the shellder would accept him as a partner. like colors on a pallette, complimentary personalities would inevitably work together.
"there's no such thing as a flawed personality" no, those were the misperceptions of the narrow minded. he smiles amicibly at sa'di. "i find that there are less games of ego to play amongst the rangers. i don't see any value in collecting badges and showing off techniques when there are the scourge to fight"
at least that part was true. he doesn't mind lying to her, really, but the truth just so happened to fit the agenda today.
the ranger raises an eyebrow. "i don't recall saying anything about flawed personalities," she remarks. "or implying it, for that matter." the shellder may be difficult, but the woman knows the capacity of all the pokemon in the union.
she listens to his explanation, her face impassive. without comment, she hands him his items. "go then, antipov." sa'di has her lucario herd the other pokemon back before returning to her desk and the formidable stack of letters for her to answer.
