Imogen wasn't sure if she should curse or bless her luck as the Prosperina festival raged around her in full swing. While it was a lovely coincidence that as soon as she entered the city the festival began, the influx of newcomers and tourists made the already cramped city feel absolutely suffocating. She struggled to make her way through the streets, elbowing her way into a couple of coffeeshops only to be practically thrown out due to overcapacity. It was getting ridiculous and, dare she say it, frustrating. The girl couldn't even remember the last time she was honest-to-arceus frustrated, but boy was it a rotten feeling.
As Imogen sat heavily on one of the very few empty benches in a park near her hotel, the Phanpy trotting by her heels hopped up beside her and immediately began snuggling into her side. 'Pha phan~ pha pha~ phaaaan~*~*~' she trilled, blue trunk wiggling in delight and eyes sparkly as ever. As cute as Margaret was, her neverending liveliness got on the nerves of Imogen's other pokemon. When she brought Maggie out of her pokeball that morning the rest of them begged to be withdrawn with desperate pleading looks. No one wanted to spend an entire day in Prosperina with an exuberant, newly-hatched Phanpy.
Imogen supposed that it was for the best that they all stayed behind – there was no way that she could handle a whiny Squirtle or a hotheaded Snubbull while making her way through the busy streets. "How can you stay so positive and so… cheerful, Mags?" she pondered outloud, not really expecting the Phanpy to respond. Indeed, Maggie obliviously continued to trill and cuddle with her owner. Snorting, "I guess it's just easier for a pokemon in the end," she drawled, scratching Margaret behind the ears.

For the first time in a long time, any feelings of annoyance had died down in Deryn enough to let her enjoy the festival. It was also the first time, in maybe an even longer time, that she laughed at something – one of the busker’s. She couldn’t remember which one had made her laugh first since she found them all entertaining; they had always been Deryn’s favourite part about festivals.
But as easily as her mood was lifted, it was even easier to send it back down again. The criminals? Children. Deryn did not like children or their grubby hands, and let’s not forget their affinity for spilling things and creating messes. Before she had escaped the crowded streets, Deryn had some sort of fizzy soda spilled on her, as well as at least one suspicious sticky patch of something stuck on her legs from when a child hid behind them while playing some stupid game with his friends.
Lucky child – the streets were too happy and full of people for Deryn to dare do anything other than give it a quick, sharp glare. And, lucky her, that had been enough to send the kid away to look for another poor stranger to hide behind.
When she had escaped the festival, she found herself in a park. A park with people, but none that looked like children. Deryn almost considered it a victory, but a real victory would include getting rid of the stains on her clothes.
Deryn singled out the girl with a small Pokemon to ask for directions. She was the second nearest person, and there was something about the look of the first nearest that Deryn didn’t like. “Hey Phanpy girl,” she said as she approached her. “Do you know where the nearest laundromat is? Some stupid kid spilled a drink on me back there.”
button (I would've given you Felizia, but Deryn needs to get out Proserpina too ._.
