Her dad worked, travelling the region on business trips and often bringing souveneirs back for her. Her mother worked as well, but part time, and she worked part-part time on weekends, when there wasn't any school. Often, it was the two of them - sometimes, it was three. That was when things were normal. That was when people still trusted, and barriers hadn't broken the city down by the base. News of the scourge spread fast as the evidence flooded into town. And strangers, all these strangers invaded the place that she'd always known to be her home, cozy and safe. Friends broke apart amidst the stories of scourge outbreaks, tightened regulations and constant fear that they might finally, finally get tired of ravaging those neighboring cities and turn their attention to a new target. Daily arrivals stopped showing up the resteraunt, forcing it to close. The last day, on her way out, the manager shoved the same piece of paper into every employee's hand along with his good wishes.
