This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

The scar on her leg throbs as she watches the dragonite and the charizard tear through the sky, the clouds of the Dream World swirling and re-forming in the wake of their flight. Everything is more malleable here, it seems, but she rubs her right leg with a shaking hand. The pain doesn't seem to twist in the manner of other things in this place--except to twist sharper.
The vaporeon shoots aurora beams upward that the two flying pokemon navigate around as they battle at each other. From time to time a stray flame or dragonbreath curls in the water-type's direction when they cut close to her, but she always melts smoothly out of the way with acid armor, reforming a dozen yards away to renew her assault.
The dragonite and the togepi were quarreling over who was in charge again. The dragonite shot an angry ice beam into the side of the training room and the togepi replied with a furious metronome: Land's Wrath sent all the pokemon inside the center sprawling. The blastoise looked helplessly between the two of them, unsure of which side to take.
Thalia turned away from the window, yawned, and stretched out on the grass. In her corner of the Dream World, the sky was always bright blue and clear. She settled in for a nap (within a nap?) not particularly concerned about whatever happened between her pokemon. At the very least, it'd toughen the blastoise up.
Umbreon and alakazam trade blows inside the room. The alakazam meditates in the center, hovering a few feet above the floor, Although his eyes are closed, from time to time he unleashes a psychic bolt with unerring accuracy at the umbreon. Most of the time, the dark-type dodges out of the way before it crashes home. Sometimes he doesn't. The blastoise raises protect and the alakazam throws his the power of his telekinesis at him, testing for a weak spot. None of them hold back--the Dream World is kinder to those who lose than the waking world, so it's better to overstretch themselves and fail here, where they can afford it.
Outside the training center, Thalia ate a sandwich. The Dream World meant all of the taste and no calories.
Why hadn't she invested in a blastoise sooner? Blastoise was bad ass. Thalia wanted to be blastoise when she grew up. Blastoise was tearing dragonite and charizard apart and making it look easy. Protect deflected both a hyper beam and a flamethrower and sent the attacks spiraling harmlessly to the side. Dragonite had to corkscrew out of the way to avoid his own attack. And to think blastoise was doing all this and she hadn't even given him the mega stone yet.
Thalia wolf-whistled from behind the glass and took a bite out of her steak burrito. The dream world was amazing.
Thalia was training really hard. If you could think of a training thing, Thalia was doing it. Thalia loved training so much. So do I. I love training. THalia was training draognite, charizard and blastoise because lets be real those are like the main pokemon I use and if J and karimi and thalia are gonna break into the Land of nightmares we're definitely gonna need a level 150 dragonite and blastoise. So they were doing training stuff.
Thalia ate a sandwich but if I could be eating right now I would have a pizza with extra chese. I'm going to go cook pasta.
That researcher she had gotten this mysterious EXP BOOST from had been rude and kind of annoying, but Thalia didn't really care about that anymore. Not when the aforementioned EXP BOOST had doubled, it seemed, the learning ability of all of her pokemon under a certain strength threshold. Dragonite hadn't seemed to get any use out of the thing, but she couldn't say the same for all of her pokemon, thankfully.
It had put new life in the rest of them, and for the first time Thalia though she might have the time to raise a crop of back-up pokemon. God knew she could use the type coverage.
She fed each of them an EXP BOOST capsule, locked them in the training center, and took a nap. Hopefully it would have worn off and they'd have leveled up by the time she woke up.
It was a good thing that pokemon couldn't die in the Dream World, or even wake up with any damage, because jolteon and bagon were getting the shit royally kicked out of them. The serperior wasn't the strongest pokemon she had--far from it, actually--but he was still more than a match for them, even when they teamed up together.
Jolteon tackled the snake pokemon rather ineffectually, while bagon raged on. He honestly didn't seem to notice either of them in the slightest.
Thalia was starting to wonder if maybe it would have been a better idea to bring in the beldum for the two baby pokemon to wail on. At the very least, it might have built their self-esteem up a little bit.
But they were still struggling onward, relentlessly, against the serperior. She let it continue for now.
I'd say it's hard out here for a trainer, but it really, really isn't. Thalia sipped a glass of wine distilled from 100 percent pure experience points and mixed with researcher tears, and watched her pokemon gain mad levels for only 150 words.
The world of dreams was based as hell if you were a trainer.
The bagon was making significant gains, although he was still weak as a bug in comparison to all her other pokemon, The serperior was of a more middling strength, but the togepi was worth both of them put together. And then doubled.
togepi used metronome the serperior slithered away as fast as he could for cover, terrified. the bagon was new, young. he cocked his head at the more experienced pokemon. it was just a togepi what could-- togepi used roar of time
bagon literally died. thank god it was the dream world.
