This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Ludis took a deep breath as he stood in front of the Breeder's Guild. While he decided that he was going to make the commitment of taking care of Pokemon and breeding them, he hadn't completely sold himself on the idea. Most of him wanted to just go back home, and mope around some more. However, the stronger part of him knew that, that wasn't anyway to live. So, without further ado, he stepped inside the lavish building, and set out to find the Lady Mercedes, and when he found her, he would greet her a little stiffly out of nervousness. "Er. Hello, I'm Ludis. Areleous. I'm here to start out as a breeder."
Lady Mercedes glanced the stranger when he first entered. For a second, she seemed not to register his existence--she rarely bothered wasting time speaking with the local help--but then she smiled at the word breeder.
"Areleous... Areleous... I don't remember the name, but I remember little of paperwork. If you wish to pursue the breeder's craft, then you are welcome here."
Some aspiring breeders she'd met had been less palatable. But this one was pretty. More importantly (if anything could be more important than pretty), he wasn't a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed teenager. A memo from the Eos program had suggested that wide-eyed dreamers had a low survival rate out in the field. Say what you want about Lady Mercedes, but she prefered not to send children to their deaths.
"Come, I have a gift for you. Let us call it a welcoming gift, for joining the guild." With a few button presses at a PC, she conjured images of a a swarm of her own pokemon onto a holographic projector.
He nodded slightly when she said for him to come, before heading over to look at the pokemon choices. They were all good, and honestly, he wasn't sure which to choose. Arcanine was interesting, but how hard could it be to find a Growlith somewhere? "Mm..." Ludis stroked his chin. "The uh... What is that? Porygon? Z? and... the Milotic." He'd finally say, once he decided.
A good eye, and a discerning taste--she approved. She did wonder what egg group he intended on starting out with, but that was neither here nor there.
"A porygon-z, yes--and a sweet creature. You'll find that most mineral pokemon will get along with it splendidly." That was breeder talk for this porygon's milkshake brings all the boys to the yard. "The milotic will also serve you will, I am sure. Take care of them. If they die out there, let them die for a good cause. They are very to dear to me."
Mercedes presented Ludis with two pokeballs and a hesitant smile. "Good luck on your journeys, breeder."

When the pokeballs were handed to him, Ludis graciously accepted him; albeit with a little hesitance. The menion of not letting them die tugged at his heartstrings. "I don't plan to let any of my pokemon die. These two are no exception." He stated, his voice wavering slightly, but determined. "Thank you, ma'am." With that, he bowed his head, and made his way out.
