This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

They are weak, all of them, hatchlings he got in a fit of impulse, frail as glass. Some require nurturing, and he nurtures them in the misty dream world, where death is a myth (something the old him would never have done) and latent abilities can be exploited to their fullest. Still, out of the weak, there are always a few that are ready for more, can be pushed harder without breaking.
He picks and chooses, tosses and reconsiders, and they are the ones he brings with him to the battle arena, to try for something better, something more. Training is always about trees, stumps, pokemon against pokemon that know each other well, too well - it's time for a change, against a real opponent that is strong, may mirror the scourge that he will inevitably have to face. Perhaps, if this goes well, he'll consider using this method more often.
(i'm not sure how many battles you wanted, but jayden's brought a party of six, it's up to you how many of them battle!) toska
"into the darkness they go, the wise and the lovely."
hisham is definately not the 'gotta catch em all' kind of trainer, and for the most part, he's already finalized half of his team. which isn't actually...saying much considering that trainers are only allowed to carry six pokemon, but details. hisham is perfectly content to handwave them.
he's in ceres forest at the moment, and he's already heard the rumors of the scourge that were converging there. that can't be good, from what he remembers of fighting the scourge. he had been twenty-one back then, twenty-one and already old enough to die. he's twenty-two now, which he imagines can't help his case.
it's up to hisham to help his own case.
"good evening" he smiles from across the arena. "care to try a triple battle with me?"
where he's going, his enemies are definately not going to be interested in a nice, traditional 1v1.
(the hawlucha, croconaw, and gible are the only ones i've finalized lol. that aren't in daycare anyway) citrus
Someone he doesn't recognize greets him from across the arena, and Jayden bites his lip, stifles the urge to ignore it completely and returns it with a nod of his own. There's no resemblance to her, and there's a good, potential ally in everyone who visits the battle arena nowadays, he knows. Hostilities are better exchanged elsewhere, and now's not the time or the place.
The mention of a triple battle is foreign. He arches an eyebrow, remembering a time long past where fire, sand and poison blend into one and his pokemon fumble to work together, creating something only a team can accomplish. They were weak then, and perhaps they are still weak now, despite how much Jayden wants to believe otherwise. "I'm up for it." He nods, tossing three pokeballs into the air.
Chansey, Roselia and Litwick shake the light crystals off their hides and stare, nod at each other and smile. At Jayden's snap they turn their heads, come to attention and focus, because the scourge will not be so lenient when the time comes around. This may be practice, but that's just another word for backup, something to catch them when they fail, unlike reality.
"that's the spirit!" hisham grins and commits the boy's face to memory. if he turns out to be a worthy training partner, then hisham definitely wants to make sure that he can pick him out from the dream crowd. even if he wasn't exactly close with most of his trainer acquaintances, hisham never really forgot an artist when he met one.
that's all battles were, really. performance art. ideology and ego were all that anyone ever needed for that sort of thing. that's what battles were before the scourge. the scourge are what corrupted the art to something that wasn't even a gentleman's sport. quite irritating, really.
"i trust that you're ready."
hawlucha used hone claws hawlucha used aerial ace on roselia
croconaw used scary face on roselia croconaw used scald on litwick
gible used hone claws gible used dragon rage + acc boost on chansey citrus
He thinks he's ready, so he nods. It's become more and more frequent, lately, and the scourge will be drawn to that hesitation of his, exploiting it for all its worth. He has to fix it, fix it fast before it grows out of control.
"I take it you've done this plenty of times before?" There is potential to learn, there is always potential to learn, especially since he knows the scourge operate in groups, hordes. But hell if he's going to let his inexperience slip this early in the game and risk being ridiculed.
