This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

They haunted Abraham's every moment -- waking and sleeping. The boy found himself declining toward something that resembled insomnia, sleeping only a few hours a night to avoid the terrors that would accompany his REM cycle. He recalled that from somewhere in the depths of his mind, picturing the face of his psychology teacher. It certainly wasn't good for him, that was easy to see; his footsteps were heavy as he approached Cypress Laboratories, and bags had formed below his eyes. He truly looked miserable, and yet his only solution was to try and make some kind of personal amends by confronting his fear. Something within his psyche still whispered him promises of returning to normal, yet that may not have been possible. Abraham liked to think it was.
Instead, he just focused on the stones below as he put one foot in front of the other. His parents had taken him to Juno before -- there was a healthy concentration of people willing to partake in their study all those years ago. Cypress hadn't been there then, not that Abraham was aware, but he had a general idea where the Professor had taken up his research. Curiosities crossed Abraham's mind about Cypress' studies, about what the Scourge could provide. If putting him closer to curing them meant Abraham had to go out and snap one of their necks himself, then so be it.
...He'd just need a Pokemon to do it. He knocked. @mod
The professor was going over some very important documents when the knock came. In other words, he was studying Rattata again, writing down figures and charts as part of a very important experiment. "C-Coming!" Hastily, he shuffled the papers on the counter so that they were in some semblance of order, locked, bolted and double-checked the Rattata cages to ensure that they didn't escape while a guest was about to enter the lab. "Ms. Sybil, c-could you take care of those reports?" The Gothitelle gave a curt nod and disappeared, leaving the professor free to do what he wished.
He made his way to the door, bumping his shin on a lab counter along the way. Cypress ended up half-falling on the handle, but straightened himself out when he opened it, pushing his glasses up by the handles. "H-Hello, yes, please, c-come in." Attempting not to wince was harder than expected - then again, Cypress didn't have the best pain tolerance. "N-Now, what can I help you with, ah, Mr. - ?"
His knock was answered within moments by someone who appeared to be the Professor himself. It got Abraham wondering how he had the free time, but then again, this was a major part of the man's day, as it was also important. Abraham nodded politely at Cypress, who seemed distressed. "Mr. Jacobs, sir. Abraham Jacobs. Nice to meet you." he smiled weakly and offered his hand.
"I'm new to Eos, I'm here for a starter for research?" his voice went up at the end to express his unsureness. He hoped he was at the right place. The letter was very clear. citrus
"A-Ah, yes, Mr. Jacobs! I've been expecting you." Mrs. Sybil had commented beyond count on how only new eos recruits visited nowadays, but the professor always managed to be surprised each time, in one way or another. He shook the hand offered to him and tried to remember where he had put the researcher kits.
Gingerly(his kneecap still stung a little), he made his way over to the briefcase lying on his desk. "Yes, t-there are pokemon already prepared for you to p-pick from." Despite the mishap on the way to the door, Cypress twisted his head over his shoulder at the sound of cages rattles and Rattata squeaks, managing to avoid the desk corner this time, but just barely.
Memory was not his forte. Cypress gestured at Abraham to approach the desk, undoing the clasps on the briefcase and trying not to look too flustered. "I-If if helps your decision, please, f-feel free to let them out of their p-pokeballs."
Abraham nodded a grinned at the Professor. The lab seemed personal enough for him to know most of what was going on, yet he had a lot of backing from Eos. Abraham found himself envious. This was an unlikely future for him, but it was possible. He wouldn't mind it.
He made sure to keep it quick -- if he were in Cypress' position, he wouldn't want people dawdling and making small talk for ages. Just get in, pick, get out. There were probably others scheduled to come in anyways. When presented with the options, Abraham analyzed each quickly. It was an easy task considering how much time he'd spent with his researcher parents and their Pokemon. Abraham mentally knocked off the Scyther, recalling his father's. His mother had an Octillery, too, so that was a no-go.
Perhaps a Meganium would be a good help down the line. Still, Abraham shook his head as he sorted out his thoughts. Grass-types weren't that strong. He quickly knocked off Doduo, Skrelp, and Koffing, and was left with Fletchling, Eevee, Bagon, and Tynamo. Fletchling would get wrecked by way too many things, so that was a no. That just left three.
"I'll take the Bagon, sir." he squeaked, unsure of his decision. There wasn't enough time to stand around and make all these analyses and comparisons. It was a gut decision. citrus
"Hm?" The professor still hadn't found the research kits. On top of that, the documents that he had seen laid out on his desk had mysteriously vanished now as well. "A-A wonderful choice, Mr. Jacobs! Salamence, yes, it'll serve you well, I'm sure of it." Had the Rattata gotten out of their cages again? Cypress smoothed out his lab coat, laughed nervously and tried not to continue that line of thought.
Mrs. Sybil poked her head around the corner and strolled out with a small pouch of items. In her other hand, she held a red pokedex - the look in her eyes as she passed the professor was not one of approval - that was stacked on top of the pouch and offered to Abraham. You will find some starting items for the journey in there. They are meant to start you off on the right foot, what you choose to do afterwards is of your own accord.
Cypress came up beside her, clutching a pokeball that he pushed into Abraham's hand. "D-Do be careful out there." The flow of eos recruits had dwindled to a trickle over the past few months. They couldn't afford any more casualties.
