This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

"That's probably because there's not a lot of people out here for them to eat. And that's what they like to do. Kill and eat people. It started a year ago. Scientists at Lake Pax exploded the institution or something, and all of the sudden there were hordes of black-eyed zombie pokemon pouring over everything. Decima's gone. Bacchus is gone. They took Nerio last year, but we threw them back. The entire region's up in arms about it."
"decima and bacchus, gone?" stavros was finding things a little hard to believe. had that much been going on? he had seen a few of those black-eyed pokémon, but thought they were simply poisoned or genetically-mutated. he had disposed of them -- but to think that they were actually connected to a zombie apocalypse ...
... hahaha, can't be true. no way.
"has that supermodel gym leader actually done anything against them? or even some of the roguish ones, like donovan. guy walks around with a pistol, uses it. hieronymous would dislike him, i've always felt."
"Donovan's been camped out at Lake Pax killing scourge since they showed up. Supermodel--you mean Irene? She's a drunk wreck who spends all her time at the casino since Bacchus fell. Whatever. She's not important. Olivia is guarding the Amberwell--or trying--and Angelo disappeared. Melchior killed his own town to take out the scourge. As for everyone else? They're busy with defending their own towns or accommodating refugees. There's a new organization, EOS. I'm part of it. We fight the scourge, or at least the trainers and breeders do. Researchers research and try to think up scientific ways to kill them. Breeders ship us soldiers."
that was a whole lot of information for one person. stavros wasn't sure where to start picking information from. it felt like if he tugged at this end, nothing would unravel -- but if he tugged at the other end, everything would fall apart.
taking his time, he sorted out the information mentally. what seemed to be the highlight of thalia's little speech was this organization called EOS. funny, how breeders and researchers were actually something these days. stavros hadn't realized. back in his time -- it was trainers and coordinators, and that was honestly it. what kind of new thing would they come up with next, he wondered.
"okay," he said a second time. "zombie apocalypse out there. this organization is out hunting those black-eyed pokémon. you guys are doing clean-up and taking them down. i assume your ... pokémon are all ... from these breeders.
"by the way -- angelo, he's the dark-type specialist? disappeared?" stavros's expression seemed to indicate that he found his disappearance very much logical. "hahahaha!"
"i met him briefly. he didn't leave much of an impression, except for his dark types."
stavros considered thalia's plea. he considered it far longer than thalia's togepi ever would, which was to say, a time of about ... 2 seconds. that's a whole decimal place improvement.
"depends who's on the taskforce. an old guy like me can't really keep up with the young ones. you guys have lots of energy!"
"i don't wish to sign up for eos," stavros clarified. "i'll keep an eye out for the zombies if they come into the desert. i'll also check on cura from time to time. does that sound good enough -- or maybe, an improvement?"
every little bit counts. it'll eventually pay off. stavros wasn't about to die like lyanna.
he chuckled.
"maybe the next time you see me, i'll be enjoying a nice cup of tea in robigo country. the people there are nice people -- the last time i visited, anyway."
