This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

GRAND OPENING !
Welcome to KOHAKU REGION's grand opening! If you're interested in joining, come check out our grand opening giveaway!
the statue comes to life. the eyes glow with a mysterious white light. the charizards followed thalia onto the roof, but they are seized by the stone charizard, one dragon in each bony fist. their struggles do not help them at all. soon, they look as if they will be crushed by the stone fist.
<chaar, the guardian of the tower wants to thank you for bringing its dinner!> the charmander jumps up and down happily, as if thalia had not just inadvertently participated in some weird pokemon sacrificial ritual. the charmander swishes his tail back and forth. this is the natural order of things. dragons exist to consume each other in order to sustain their powers. <the egg is the most nutritious part! i don't think that he expected you to actually succeed, taaalia>
between the charizard mega evolutions, only one is able to become a true dragon.
<you probably want to look away for this part!> the charmander chirps happily.
the statue rumbles.
<oh yeah! your reward!> charmander wobbles over to thalia. his hands are still empty. he isn't the one with the mega stones, after all.

S4xK7tVz < 50 thalia is very far
She stepped backwards from the box. Her hands were steady at her side. She'd made her choice. She'd accepted the terms, although she didn't know what they were, and she'd abide by them. There was nowhere to stop on this road.
Thalia looked over at the charmander briefly.
"You're saying my name wrong," she told him, and then looked back up at the statue clutching the two charizards. She owed them that.
<chaaar?> the charmander looks at her in confusion. he's pretty sure that he's saying it right okay.
<anyway, you've brought the guardian more than he needs! he's gonna get bloated~> charmander shakes his head. <so he's gonna let you pick one to spare! maybe one of the charizards will reward you for your choice! there's two different kinds of stones, you know!> charmander looks rather excited. after all, there was both a charizard x and a charizard y. <you could choose to save the egg, i guess, but what would a baby have to offer you?>
as if to lend gravitas to the situation, the egg on the stone starts shaking, as if it is beginning to hatch. just in time to watch the world go to hell, or die right after being born.
the charizards in the clutches of the statue have stopped struggling, as if they have accepted their fate. they do not appear to have any desire to be saved. they have chosen the new generation.
"Fuck this," Thalia said. "Fuck your loaded choices. Fuck me as well. I'm supposed to be saving pokemon."
Thalia snatched the egg off of the stone and stumbled backwards, fumbling charizard out of his pokeball as she ran.
Charizard spiraled upwards, flames hissing and crackling at the stone statue as he used a dragon claw and then a shadow claw in quick succession on the claws wrapped around the two mega charizards, trying to chip and shatter at the stone so they can break free.
the statue does shatter. in fact, it shatters completely like a false idol, sending thousands of tons of rock crashing down to the floor below. the fate of the pokemon within its grasp remains to be seen.

ar5|gK0x < 50 thalia dismembered by falling rock < 50 arms > legs
The dice gods laughed long and cruel. Thalia barely had the chance to toss the egg away from her as the stone rained down before her legs were crushed. Her charizard swooped and dodged among the storm, and followed his trainer's wishes. It was the egg he emerged with safely from the rubble, not Thalia.
She would however, survive, although her right leg was going to be a mangled wreck for the next few minutes. Whatever. She couldn't see it. Tossing aside a few sheets of rock like they were paper, Thalia broke through the surface of the wreckage and was very careful not to look at her crumpled ruin of a lower body.
Her charizard landed gently in front of her and placed the hatching egg on the ground.
to the charmander's credit, he doesn't even balk at thalia's Moment of Supreme Bravery or Supreme Stupidity, you decide which. his face is serene like a child's (a child who has spent an afternoon picking the legs off of spiders).
the eggshell starts to crack open, and a baby charmander emerges from the egg. she is a tiny life, a blank slate in the truest sense of the word. she walks over to thalia with small footsteps. the woman's mangled legs do not disturb her. the charmander has not yet understood pain.
suddenly she shudders and throws up a glass sphere, along with baby's first flames. the charizardite y remains undamaged as it rolls across the floor towards thalia.
<you were ready to give them up. you were ready to submit them to the flames> the male charmander's voice is devoid of emotion.<what changed?>

Thalia was not entirely sure she was capable of dying anymore, but it sure felt like she was. She coughed up a spattering of blood into one cupped hand, and wiped her arm across her mouth, looking at the male charmander.
"Nothing changed. It was wrong. I was wrong. All I did was realize it."
Her charizard bent to retrieve the charizardite y for her, tucking his claws carefully around it. Thalia looked at the newborn charmander, and then the male charmander.
<the world isn't kind enough to wait for you, chaaaar.>
she has changed the situation very little in the end, and it doesn't take a magical tellumo charmander to make her realize that.
<wild pokemon thrive in the wild. that girl is no more or less exceptional than the next hatchling> he gestures towards thalia's mega bracelet. <trainers are the only ones who grant pokemon exceptionalism. just look at their dark-eyed cousins>
it's a little sad when some old ruins have more awareness of what's going on in kohaku than the pokemon champion but okay. 2tsunz

"That's a remarkably easy philosophy," she says without any heat. "Some might even call it a lazy one."
She's dealt with Stefan for multiple threads. The charmander doesn't have shit on him. Thalia counts all victories, no matter how small, as precious. The world is a bad place, and it will hurt you if it can. Even if she stumbled, picking herself back up, doing something right--these are things no one will take from her.
Oh good, her legs are back in place. She creaked to her feet, brushing the dust off her new skin.
"Thriving is enough," she said.
She takes the charizardite y from her own pokemon. In turn, he encloses both himself and the newborn charmander within his wings for a moment. If he says something to her, Thalia doesn't catch it.
tellumo ruins takes pleasure in thalia's visits. these sorts of reactions were only to be expected, considering what kind of trainers were attracted by the lure of mega stones.
<if you are going to fight the world> the charmander suddenly combusts in a pillar of flame. <then i expect to see you back soon, thalia>
the voice sounds less like a charmander and more like a ghost from the bowels of the earth itself. 2tsunz
