alex stood at the top of a hill, looking across the valley to where physis's home was. rather, sophia's home. it hit harder than ever, the pain in his chest. he felt the virus grab at his heart, twisting and wrenching it in its grip, black shadows engulfing it. his bones ached, sorrow drowning his mind.
the voice from messor rock still played in his head.
"i love you alex."
little by little, the sorrow began to trickle into anger. he was frustrated, disgusted by himself. white hot rage was just over the horizon for alex as he looked at sophia's home.
"big houses always made me sad." he murmured, as if to himself. sonata slipped out from the shadows, joining him by his side.

it was rare for the gengar to speak, so alex was caught off guard. his expression softened slightly. "thanks, sonata." he said, patting the gengar on the head.
she doesn't know why she's here. she's been wandering around nerio after the meeting with batin, confused and disorientated. only her pokemon have been keeping her straight, and that's still not enough.
so perhaps that is why she's wandered into bellona hills, and sees the blue-haired man. the same blue-haired man that almost-killed her politoed friend.
she ends up coming up from behind him and his dreaded gengar, her pokemon by her side and knowing what she is about to do. they follow her anyway.

once upon a time ahuda may have felt pity for the hades agents, as absurd as that may seem. it was sad, in its own twisted way, that formerly upright humans would have to rely on something as twisted as the scourge for power, for survival.
this is not once upon a time, and all ahuda feels is cold rage, even days, weeks after the fact.

his fingers were translucent, his whole body was. he looked down at his feet and saw the grass right through. he was invisible to the world, everyone could be. alex's breath hitched, fists clenching.
thunder rings over head, and alex screams. it's horrific, a ghostly shriek that comes straight out of alex's lungs. it's high pitched and painful, even to listen to. there are no words, just pure emotion. he falls to his knees.
gengar redoubled his efforts to protect his trainer.

the man disappears. the rain falls. ahuda doesn't care if she's being pounded on by water from clouds - she's too busy looking around for the invisible agent. then logic takes over, and ahuda draws bug - stringshot on the gengar.
she doesn't care about the agent right now. her pokemon are getting pulverized, and she recalls madonna entirely. she can't do anything against a ghost pokemon.

it took a moment, but alex faded back into existance. strength returns to him, and he pushes away the painstaking sorrow if for just a moment. alex stands, capture styler in hand. "ranger, tell me your name." he calls over the storm.

"a dead man has no need for names." he calls back. thunder explodes around them, and alex almost flinches. sonata looks back to his trainer, checking to make sure he's okay.
he draws dark and disappears from view. gengar senses his presence, but thick black smoke shields him from view.
he disappears from view again, but this time it's black smoke, not invisibility. ahuda simply ignores him again, drawing the water - whirlpool sign at the gengar. if the agent is going to hide and not do anything, then she won't poke a sleeping lion. she knows better than that now.
