This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

GRAND OPENING !

the gala was coming up, hosted by the lady mercedes. honestly, masami didn't know what to think about it - there was a war going on, and yet the leader of the breeder's union wanted to have a party. yes, there was something to celebrate - the fact that eos hadn't collapsed or fallen in its first year was one, and that they were still all here was another - and yet it seemed... callous for them to eat, drink, and be merry. though masami couldn't say that she wasn't not interested in whoeverelse she might meet at the gala.
so here she was instead, in a boutique in juno city, shopping for a proper dress to wear to a formal party that would still allow her at least some normal movement. the ones that she'd been recommended were either too long or too short, so here she was, leafing through the racks carefully with one hand for one that met her standards. her togepi was in the other, peering curiously at the various designs from the safety of her arm.
she happened to bump shoulders with someone as she looked, though, and masami looked up at the person with an apology on her tongue.
thalia wasn't sure why she was browsing the racks. her dress had been pre-ordered and set aside for some time now, ever since the gala had been announced. apparently there was significant pressure for a high profile EOS trainer to make an appearance, and she had no idea where delilah was. she also suspected J would not be in attendance, although she could be wrong.
but here she was, idly staring at the wall of shoes across the floor and wondering if adding 5 inches to her frame was a good idea or not. she barely noticed as someone bumped into her--it was only her togepi pinching her ankle from his position on the ground at her feet that snapped her into attention.
"oh--uh, hello," thalia said, looking at the other girl. "i'm sorry."
her togepi looked up curiously at the other one.
sister, he cried to her. i am saddened to see you in such a state.
"oh no, it's fine, it was my fault," masami quickly said, blinking at the pink hair before moving on. "i bumped into you in the first place."
masami looked to where the woman was staring at before making a sympathetic noise. "looking for shoes?" she asked, peering at the vaccinated togepi on the ground along with her own. "anything special coming up?" the eos woman could just as well have been preparing for a different occasion, and not the gala.
synphonie tilted her head to the side, curious as to what the other togepi was talking about. for whatever for? she asked. there is no reason to be sad.
"shoes, accessories. something like that. i'm attending the eos gala. i had a dress made, but i didn't get anything else to go with it."
thalia examined a pair of black kitten heels before putting them aside. too childish.
"you?"
look at you, thalia's togepi said, shaking his head mournfully. tucked under her arm like a frivolous decoration, like a hollow display. you should be wild and free!
"the gala, and i'm looking for a dress to wear - didn't have the time to order one before they told me." curse fail postage systems; or did that happen to just masami? she started looking through the racks again, this time more carefully.
"what's your dress like?" it might give masami at least an idea of what was acceptable to this gala.
synphonie would have raised an eyebrow if she could. and you? you follow your trainer around like a good little pokemon. hypocritical, much?
thalia realized she wasn't sure what color her dress was. then she realized it didn't matter. she pulled out her c-gear and blew up a photo of the dress, holding out the screen so the other woman could see it.
she thinks i follow her, the togepi said. but i follow no human. i only use them. on the day she is no longer a tool suited to my purposes, i will turn upon her and break her bones like a pawful of dry wood.
