This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

he'd gone and thrown everything away just to come to sol. he was by the edge of the beach, barefooted and gingerly testing the ice-cold water with his feet. he didn't remember the last time he felt healthy.
with mild sun beating down on him, ismael finally felt as if things were starting to look up for him. he walked a few steps into the sea, smiling quietly to himself as he waited for thalia.
Typhlosion trudged on all fours through the sand besides Thalia. Occasionally a cool breeze blew over the two of them, but winter was receding from Sol City; or at least its grip here wasn't as strong as it had been in Ceres and Prosperina. Thalia was even wearing a t-shirt.
In the distance, Thalia could see a man wading somewhat into the sea. Assuming it was Ismael, she waved at him.
the beach was somewhat deserted, but it boasted more visitors than it had in a long while. the stretch thalia and ismael were on, however, was thankfully less populated than the other end of it, where families and their pokémon were out for a walk and children screamed about things they wanted but couldn't get.
ismael glanced up from where he was standing in the water. it was easy to spot thalia -- her pink hair was rather hard to miss. however, he couldn't make out the creature by her side. he wondered what it was; at any rate, he raised a hand and waved back.
Thalia rolled up her jeans and stepped into the water after Ismael. Typhlosion, on the other hand, looked as if he would rather battle one of the Scourge Furies solo than inch any closer to the waves.
"Typhlosion, this is Ismael. Ismael, Typhlosion. You two haven't met. But anyway--how do you like Sol so far?"
Thalia prayed very, very hard that he liked it fine.
fennekin poked its head out from under a rug. like the typhlosion, it didn't like the waves either. or the sand. but it went where ismael did.
i think the sea is silly, it said to typhlosion.
"nice to meet you, typhlosion," ismael called out to the pokémon standing away from the sea. he turned back to thalia. "it's not bad. i rather like it."
he smiled out at the horizon. the city's weather seemed to agree with him.
humans are funny things, aren't they? fennekin wrinkled its nose and ducked under the covers. they have a fascination with the sun and the water and the noise. the little fox shook its head.
"i got here a few hours ago, and someone told me to come here," said ismael. it had been confusing at first, but sol was more beach, sea and tourists than it was city. "i haven't looked at places to stay yet. i wonder if i could camp here."
he sneezed.
fennekin blanched. i hope he's not serious, it turned to typhlosion and spoke, quite seriously.
It was a good thing that the typhlosion couldn't yet use eruption because he almost certainly one have. As it was, he merely stamped his feet and whined pitifully at Thalia and Ismael.
"I think," Thalia said. "That perhaps my pokemon is less than enthused at the idea of a night on the beach. Next to the water."
ismael couldn't really read fennekin, but something about the indignant glare in its eyes got through. thalia's words helped, too.
"you're right," said ismael, "i know fennekin is a fire-type. i think typhlosion is as well." he glanced at the two pokémon before patting typhlosion on the head.
"so where do you want to go, typhlosion?" ismael was willing to accommodate a less than happy pokémon.
I would like to go inside like civilized creatures, into the warmth. Perhaps a nice blacksmith would put us up for the night? At the very least, someone with heating. We can return to the beach in summer, when I can flop on the ground 50 feet away from the water and enjoy the heat, typhlosion answered.
Unfortunately for him, with the clear badge changed, Thalia had no way of actually communicating in words with her pokemon. He did point in the direction of Sol proper with a paw though, and that helped.
"I think he'd rather sleep inside," she said. "Which if he really wants, I'll just put him back in his pokeball--" Something occurred to her. "Did I even give you a pokeball for fennekin?"
ismael had no idea what typhlosion was saying either, but he nodded in the fashion of someone who perfectly understood what the pokémon's concerns were. he turned to thalia.
"maybe we could make a trip into the city instead," he said, "i guess they really don't like the sea."
fennekin nodded. finally, the humans speak some sense, the fox remarked.
"... a pokéball?" ismael blinked. he hadn't -- right, pokémon went into pokéballs. "no, you didn't. i've been carrying around and he seems to enjoy it, though."
