This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Carina looked over when she heard the stranger say her name and, not entirely sure why it was said, bowed her head a little. “She said it was nice to meet you, deaf-ears,” Felizia informed her Pokemon who rolled its eyes in response. Then to Thalia, “Not a nickname person?”
She paused, feeling as though she’d forgotten something, and when she remembered she said, almost apologetically, to the Mienshao, “Whoops. Almost forgot to say – nice to meet you too, Mrs. Mienshao.”
Felizia smiled back at the Mienshao, and decided not to ask about the nicknames any further. Thalia changed the topic anyway.
“Well… About that…” Felizia unhelpfully shrugged and tried to grab for an answer she liked. “I’ve never been on a building this high, so I wanted to see what it was like. Doesn’t seem like many people come here though.”
"Probably because there was a sign that said no one was allowed on the roof."
Thalia didn't seem to mind that Felizia had broken the rules though. She crossed the roof and leaned over the railing to the point of danger, gazing at the ground below.
Luckily Thalia hadn’t been dept. store security or some other breed of party pooper. She also didn’t seem at all fazed by the height judging by how daring she was with the railing. Felizia waited for a strong breeze to push her over.
“Very pretty,” Felizia agreed. “You like heights?” That would explain the daringness.
"Not really," she answered. "Well, I like the view but the idea of falling isn't so appealing." Her hand went to her belt, and she pointed to three pokeballs in turn. "Charizard, salamence, dragonite. Figure if I go over the edge, it's high enough that I'll have time to get at least one of them out. If I can't, well it's my own fault."
She thought about what she said for a moment.
"As you can see, EOS trainers apparently lack a certain sense of self-preservation."
“That’s handy.” Felizia was impressed; not only did Pinky have a plan, she had some intimidating Pokemon. (And a dark sense of humour too, maybe? Felizia couldn’t tell; she was too slow when it came to black comedy).
That last sentence was a joke though, right? It seemed more obvious than the previous one. Oh, why not. “Makes sense to disobey the first law of nature, doesn’t it?” Felizia smiled. “Shame there’s not hundreds of trainers around. Too many bloody breeders.”
“Mhmm.” Felizia couldn’t agree more. Only the crazy chose to fight the scourge head on. The crazy, and the brave and the selfless and…
“But the trainers get all the action. And as thrilling as it is to try and get Pokemon to breed,” (it was just was well the sarcasm was clear in that sentence, otherwise it would’ve sounded very weird), “I’m sure you guys have better stories to tell.”
That was another thing that had sounded a lot cooler in her head.
Felizia grinned back. That combination definitely fit the definition of interesting. “Gory and weird, huh? Back it up – let’s hear one of these stories.”
She realized, with 20/20 hindsight, that none of her gory and weird stories were exactly heroic. The better word for them might actually be stupid.
"Um," Thalia said. "Well, one time--" She tried to think of something that had happened to her and wasn't a) absurd b) silly c) embarrassing or d) all of the above.
"I...fought a scourge Palkia with Donovan once." she finally settled on. "We won, obviously, or I guess I wouldn't be here."
One time…? One time what? Thalia must be going through her many stories and sifting out which ones were the kings and queens of the gory and the weird. That’s what Felizia decided to think.
Disappointingly – hugely disappointingly – the story that was decided on had next to no details. No gore was mentioned, and as for weirdness…
“Wait. What?” Felizia wasn’t sure whether to be astounded, confused, or worried for the Pokemon mentioned. Her voice went with worried. “What do you mean a scourge Palkia? That’s… that’s a legendary Pokemon. They can’t get infected!” That would just be… everyone would just…
"No, I don't think it was a real one!" Thalia said, waving her hands. "It was really hard to fight though, even with Donovan. And it exploded into a bunch of massive black goo when it died. It was disgusting. Yeah."
She trailed off. Thalia was not really the best storyteller.
