The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

ceres forest isn't a great place to go hiking at night, especially not in the wake of the last major scourge battle.
when has iker ever really let that stop him?
the ranger had met with wisteria the malamar awhile ago, but he had decided not to take her along. he's heard the rumors about amber glade, and risking an unvaccinated assist wasn't a move that he was really down with. besides, he could probably handle himself.
a manectric and a shellgon walk by his side. he figures that should be more than enough.
the fores has fallen into the hands of roving gangs of scourge. like war bands, they scatter across ceres, rampaging and killing as it pleases them--and it pleases them very much. the two scourge pokemon who stumble across iker and his partners are scouts of a much larger group, grizzled and scarred.
but their taste for battle hasn't been satiated yet. and never will be. the scyther and his heracross partner flank and advance in a pincer movement, stepping into sight just ahead of iker.
iker doesn't see levels above their heads, but the impending fight didn't seem nearly as hard when the scourge pokemon weren't followed by a human agent.
the blood on their claws is still kinda unsettling, though. just a tad.

scyther fucking died. he probably looked like someone had shoved him through a cheese grater, and then shoved him through again. heracross leapt upon the body of his fallen companion and hollered his war cry before renewing the assault.

oh arceus, that wasn't a pretty sound. okay, maybe iker will take the agent next time. less damage on his eardrums.
also, wild scourge can't dodge pacification in the ranger revisions. wow, that makes ranger battles versus one scourge basically impossible to lose unless they were facing an agent.
iker likes what pacification did last turn, so he decides to pacify the heracross again.
he also tosses a virus ball at the scyther.

the first heracross stood in place, struck silent and dumb, and watched as his companion was ripped apart without mercy. he turned that blank gaze once again upon iker and his pokemon, but it held no glittering malice. his eyes held nothing at all.
the god that ruled the scourge was seriously considering throwing another wave at the ranger. because landmark challenge threads should not be so easy.
also good rule of thumb: if hook plays a class, it's probably going to be an interesting class. petition to have hook play a trainer, please.
heracross just...died. even a god could recognize a lost cause when it saw one. around iker, the noises of the forest went still, as a wave of scourge moved outwards, away from him. they would find easier prey.
