This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Balancing several small beanbags in her hands, Nemona Taiski glanced at the bemused Shinx on the ground in front of her. "It's for training, Balthazar." the girl explained, dropping a red one and scooping it up with the toe of her shoe to pick it up again. "Ice Fang all of them. I better see frozen beanbags before they hit the ground. Ready?"
Before Balthazar could nod, Nema tossed a beanbag high up into the air. The Shinx leapt up and, with teeth crackling with ice, crunched down on it. Punctured and covered in small ice crystals, the beanbag fell with a thud to the ground. Nema threw several more in the air, and the Shinx managed to hit every single one of them. After the last beanbag fell to the ground, Nema put her hand up for a high five. Instead of doing this, though, Balthazar mistook her hand as another beanbag, leaped up, and bit down.
Today's focus was training a newborn and a small Pokemon with a stomach the size of a Wailord.
"Arceus, Colonel, put down that sandwich. Where did you even get that, anyways?" Reluctantly, the Sandshrew grumpily laid his perfectly fine ham and cheese sandwich on the ground. Immediately, the Fletchling made a dive for it. "Kibi! We're training, not eating!" The Sandshrew snatched the food away and glared at the newly-hatched bird. Nemona closed her eyes and sighed.
"Alright, what we're going to do is practice your moves. Kibi, Tailwind and Tackle, uh, the ground. I guess. And Colonel, put that sandwich down and start using Poison Sting. On the ground." She was too shy to ask the attendants for one of those training targets. Kibi launched himself into the air and began to make the most turbulent whirlwind he could handle. Which wasn't very big. Casting one soulful glance at his sandwich, Colonel's claws began shading a deep tone of purple. Satisfied, Nema leaned against the wall and closed her eyes. Was it possible to sleep in the Dream World, when you were already sleeping? Is there a Dream World for a Dream World? Why did she hear the sound of munching?
Nema's eyes flitted open to see a guilty-looking Sandshrew finishing off the last of his sandwich.
>>With all due respect, Millie, I think I deserve a break?..<<
"Not a chance, Ethreal." Millie Goldman scolded the tuckered out Deino. "It's hardly been thirty minutes. Get back out there." With a sigh, he dragged himself back to the robotic training dummy, which was clanking obnoxiously. "Let's shut that thing up. Earth Power, Dragon Rage, then Tackle." she commanded. Obediently but exasperatedly, the Deino channeled his power so that the ground erupted with power under the foe. Then he opened his maw wide and let a spray of Dragon Rage hit his mechanical target and then rammed into it with full force in a Tackle.
The training dummy clattered to the floor. "Focus Energy, say, three times in a row. Go!" Millie called. With a patient, controlled sigh, Ethreal let himself relax and fixated his fallen opponent's weak points several times in a row. "That's good. Take a break," the girl praised him. With a sigh of relief, the Deino sank to the floor.
Simultaneously rolling their eyes, the three Pokemon standing if front of Nemona stared as she attempted (and miserably failed) to play her role as an army driller. The girl wrung her hands hopelessly in the air. "Okay, okay. I get it. Still, humor me, please? Kibi!" With a tweet, the Fletchling launched himself into the air, beating his wings haird in a Tailwind. The trainer nodded in approval.
"Contessa!"
Standing to attention, the Eevee swished her tail and used Toxic on the ground, tinting it a deadly shade of purple. Nemona stooped down to investigate it. "Hmm. A bit more. Toxic is supposed to be a move with deadly poison, not regular poison." With a nod, Contessa allowed more toxins to seep into the ground. The trainer nodded.
"Calypso!"
With a disinterested yawn, the female Zoura escaped the poisons of Toxic with Detect, following the pattern in which it streamed and simply sidestepped, looking around in boredom. With a sigh, Nemona gave her a nod of encouragement, which she pointedly ignored. Calypso had perceptive battle techniques, but she never put any effort into it.
"We all good? Then let's get this show on the road!"
Gleefully, the young Fletchling beat his wings hard for the third time in the row with Tailwind. After finishing this move (again!), he began zipping around Nemona as quick as a little bird could possible be, chirping and squeaking in delight. The trainer was growing light-headed from his activeness. "Kibi, let's start training," the girl pleaded, but Kibi was beyond reasoning at this point.
The ruthless attacks began with the nearest training dummy. Using his speed as his power-up, the Fletchling slammed into it with a Peck and knocked it over. The other training dummies beside it were knocked over as well, sending each and every one crashing to the floor like a game of dominoes. With accusing glares, the other people in the Training Center glared at Nema, who squirmed uncomfortably. Then, Kibi accidentally-on-purpose flew into an attendant with full speed, practically Pecking her. Hard.
Quietly, while chaos ensued, Nema flipped Kibi back into his Pokeball and got out of there.
Stepping inside the Training Center, Nemona took a deep breath and glanced meaningfully at Kibi (who was now a Fletchinder) on her shoulder, remembering what had happened the last time they had trained here. Luckily, nobody seemed to recognize them. "Control yourself today, Kibs. I am not going to be sued today for damage of property or whatever. We're training on defense today, I guess."
Grabbing what looked like a mirror and leaning it against the wall, Nema motioned for Kibi to get off of her shoulder. With a hop, the Fletchinder hovered in the air for a moment before Tailwinding and shooting an Ember at the reflective object. As soon as the flame made contact with the mirror-like thing, it bounced back off towards Kibi. Surprised, he barely scooted out of the way just in time for the fireball to hurtle past. "Great! Can you try Flail with that?"
Nema exited with a Fletchinder with a twisted wing, hurrying him to the nearest Pokemon Center.
Groaning, Ethereal got up from his comfortable position on the ground with aching muscles, turning to face Millie. The ranger released the whistle clenched between her teeth an let it swing back onto her neck before rapidly firing out orders. "Don't be so lazy, Ethe. Earth Power, Dragon Rage, Bite. Focus Energy, then repeat again. Go go go! Fifteen minutes until your next break!"
Being a polite dragon at heart, the Deino didn't complain outright, but he did grumble as he got to his paws and aimed more attacks to the battered training dummy in front of him. With a thump, his Bite tore the head straight from the neck. With an approving nod and a whistle, Millie walked over and patted his head. "Great! I wouldn't want to be your enemy. Now let's get outta here, I'm not paying for that anytime soon."
"Let's try to have a normal training session, Kibi. Just once."
Squawking indignantly, the Fletchinder on her shoulder puffed in annoyance. "Yeah, the deflecting mirror thing was my fault. I'm so sorry. But the Tailwind overdose was yours. Let's do this... Normally." Nodding, although still a little huffy, Kibi nodded and hopped off of Nemona's shoulder, hovering in the air. The trainer smiled. "Great! Ember, then Growl?" With a flash of sparks, the Fletchinder set fire to the floor, then directed the flames with the sound waves of Growl into a ring of fire. Then he fanned the fire with Tailwind, until Nema had to step away from the intensifying heat.
Unsurprisingly, the water sprinklers went off. Extinguishing the fire and dampening everything in the Training Center, everyone in the room glared at the trainer. Squirming under the accusing looks, Nema quietly withdrew Kibi back into his Pokeball and got out of there. Again.
