While Deryn disliked the forest, she disliked the creepy little scourge monsters all. The idea that she had to be near one – let alone have her Pokemon make contact with them – was completely disgusting. The icing on top of the cake, though, was that she had to catch one of the disgusting things and carry it all the way to the bloody desert.
Honestly, the things she was willing to do for evolution items!
Suddenly her Fletchling started making some bird noise and flapped its wings more frantically than before. Well now, if she could make a guess at what it had spotted…
“Oh, stop squawking and use Agility already,” Deryn scolded the bird as she reached for a Pokeball. She waited to see just what she was up against.

the scourge lopunny doesn't seem to have had her fill of ceres forest yet, even with the amberwell close by. the scourge carnivine that follows doesn't seem to have gotten his fill of her. by the time that they passed the fifth tree, the lopunny had gotten so sick and tired of the carnivine's shit that she decides to aim an ice punch at his face. luckily for the both of them, she pauses before her punch makes actual contact. there is the smell of human flesh in the air.

deryn is also doing a lot better than what i'd usually do with karimi since i can't even remember that she has an anvil weapon half the time. she just carries it around on her back and looks like a larper without the actual benefits.

Tbh Deryn’s ditching once she’s done with the Carnivine so this’ll be worth, what, a half-blip at most? The Lopunny is still gonna be around to terrorise and devour.
(Don’t worry Karimi – Deryn forgets about stat boosts, which are usually more useful). The only reason Deryn used the embarrassingly nerdy kids’ sword is because she’s run out of options. The scourge are too strong for her Pokemon – her Zorua would be dead if it wasn’t for the sudden realisation that “Oh yeah, stat boosts are a thing.”
No one’s allowed to leave until the Carnivine goes down.
