This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

rhea liked ceres. she had lived her for many years with a woman. right here in this village actually, and here she was, a ranger. come to get her heart sign. she was directed to a hut where they said she'd meet a boy known as isaac.
quietly, she tapped on the hut to signal that she had arrived.
the hut was in fact a tavern, and it served many a ranger who had come to catch a break from protecting the area. isaac was busy wiping some tables in the tavern, all in preparation for nighttime. business was mainly conducted during the evenings and late into the night; daytime was usually reserved for trainers who came to meet him for the heart sign.
he figured that the lady outside was one of those.
"hello." she mumbled, staring at the hut. she thought it was going to be more forest-y. or hut..ish. oh well, it didn't really matter. she offered a hand for isaac to shake and pursed her lips.
"i'm rhea," she said before slipping through the door and into the (surprisingly) well furbished hut-tavern shelter. she didn't know very much about heart signs; actually nothing at all, really. but rose had taught her about them a certain time ago. she hadn't actually seen rose in quite a while now. since i moved to nerio, she thought.
the old woman used to be a ranger too. maybe she even still lived here, in this village. hopefully that was the case and she hadn't passed away or anything.
"nice to meet you, rhea. i'm isaac. come on in," said the teenager, walking away from the door and into the tavern. "any drinks for you?" he asked, busying himself behind the counter as he cleaned up a few glasses. he preferred cider, so he poured some of that for himself -- and waited for rhea.
rhea had developed a taste for orange soda lately. she nodded her head and asked for some. "orange soda?" it was bad for you and probably had loads of chemicals in it, but damn was orange soda good. she hoped they had some.
"orange soda," isaac repeated, nodding. he slid a bottle of it over to where rhea was seated. the bottle opener followed soon after, knocking against the soda bottle with a light clink.
she snapped the cap off, pocketing it. bottle caps were collector's items. the soda fizzed as she took a large gulp of it, straight from the bottle itself. rhea swallowed. shrugged. "i guess."
she knew of heart signs, but...she really didn't know much about them. obviously isaac was the expert right? wasn't that his job, teaching rangers how to find their heart sign or something? yeah, she could see him doing that.
"i guess," isaac echoed rhea's words, watching her from behind the counter. he deliberated on telling her more about the heart sign before her completion of whatever task he decided to spring on her. his tankard of cider was half gone by the time he spoke again.
"the heart sign is representative of you as a person. it is who you are, deep down, deep inside. the sign molds itself to you, and once you fire off your heart sign, there's no changing what it does. so basically, if you get growl as your heart sign, it's just who you are. no hard feelings.
"but i've never had anyone who got growl or screech before, so there's that. heart signs don't overlap, you see."
growl? screech? rhea goes silent. knowing her, she'll probably get something pretty useless. flail or splash. frustration if she's lucky. rhea raises her eyebrows. no one had gotten screech or growl before? that was even worse-- it meant there was a possibility that she would get screech or growl.
"well. cool." she says, shrugging. "i bet some people have gotten cool stuff before. what do you think is the most interesting one you've seen?"
