This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

before he set foot in decima town, iker might not have believed that a dead town could still be dying. now, he knows better.
it's not a particularly spectacular place to be. there's no ancient ruins to explore, no natural beauties to admire. whatever needs to die is already dying. it's simply a town that was built from the ground up by the everyday efforts of people.
iker decides that he can't really be bothered to stay for too long. he inspects the hand-drawn map of the mefitis underground carefully. it wouldn't do to get himself stuck somewhere with stray scourge about.
she's here again, clearing out what scourge she can and helping rebuild where she can. although she hasn't gone anywhere near the gym yet - melchior hasn't endeared himself to her heart any these last few weeks.
mienshao by her side - ares still can't fit here in the underground, so he's upstairs - she comes across a figure in the dark. ahuda readies her styler. really, nobody can blame her for being jumpy these days. "who are you?"
the manectric calms her down a bit. the fact that it's a fellow ranger, even more so. then he's talking, and ahuda withdraws her styler back into her sleeve.
it takes her a moment to recognize the face. "iker spector, right? what luck we have. i didn't expect to see another person at all, to be truthful." that breeder had been a luck-of-the draw, if she was honest. "what are you doing here yourself?"
jax becomes a little more at ease with ahuda's presence. they had met at the gala, after all.
"muta boathouse was holding out." he shrugs. "so they gave me a little time off so that i could get a bit of experience. i heard the temple of the hunt is a good place for signs."
most will agree that iker is a plenty capable ranger, but there is always something more to pursue. a greater power, a greater potential. iker cared less about that part. the ranger mostly wanted to do a bit of sightseeing before the scourge overran another landmark. nette
"are you stationed at the boathouse?" that's the only reason that ahuda can think of off the top of her head that would need iker to get time off from duties. but she knows about the temple. "yeah, they teach signs there. it's pretty useful, actually."
ahuda would like to say that she doesn't care about material things such as landmarks. she really would. but it would be a lie to say that, because landmarks are what makes her wandering interesting. and the temple was plenty of that.
"i volunteered there for awhile." as far as he knows, there is some semblance of hierarchy in the ranger union. kinda weird how he was allowed to roam as he pleases, though. "they gave me another styler for my trouble." which was pretty worth it in his opinion. they hadn't been together long, but bella is already proving to be invaluable.
"seems like the temple ought to be my first stop then. so did melchior rope you in for some charity work or something?" nobody in their right mind would enjoy spending their time here, surely. nette
if there is a hierarchy, ahuda hasn't heard of it. not recently, anyway - she might have missed a memo or notice, which isn't surprising if one remembers the amount of time she leaves her c-gear in silent mode. "another styler? that's a good incentive." she makes a mental note for herself to drop by pax again soon.
"nah. i haven't even met melchior yet. i'm just clearing out scourge, doing what i can. the usual."
"maybe. had to fight through nine wild scourge before tam would give it to me, though. don't let that stop you, though." iker gives her a cocky grin. never let it be said that he wasn't an enabler.
"out here? doesn't seem like a popular place for that sort of thing." although if she was camping out in hesperia, that would make more sense. "surprised melchior hasn't ditched this place." he certainly would have. nette
"nine? what, were you attracting them with food and bait or something?" although it is lake pax, so perhaps ahuda shouldn't be so surprised. "well, it is his home. it's hard to just ditch a whole town when you've got responsibility to it. still doesn't excuse him for dumping poison everywhere, though." she still hates melchior for that.
"nah. that's just how the lake greets rangers." at least he isn't one of the people who are crazy enough to go camping there. or maybe it was admirable, to have that sort of conviction. or something.
then iker remembers where he is. the cesspool of decima. maybe not. there's already whispers about how melchior's judgement has been compromised by the fumes.
"kind of puts a damper on the scenery, yeah." nette
